@StSchols
Dear Families,
We congratulate all of our Year 3 to 6 students on the manner in
which they have returned back to school life this week. It was
terrific to see the smiles on so many faces on Tuesday morning as
children caught up with their classmates and teachers. I thank the
staff for their support of our children as they made the transition
back to school.
I would like to sincerely thank all parents and carers for your
efforts during online learning. You all did an amazing job and
should be so proud of your efforts and commitment to your children
and our school.
Let’s celebrate May Birthdays!
Many Happy Returns

Drop off and Pickup A huge thank you to all for your ongoing
understanding and patience with our new routine during pick up and
drop off. It seems to be going really well. Please can all parents
drop off and pick up at the soccer gate. We will
continue to monitor pick up and drop off and appreciate any
feedback given to us.
Children remaining at home throughout Term 2
We have been advised by a small number of families that their
children will not be attending school throughout the remainder of
the
term. As advised by the Victorian Government and Catholic
Education Melbourne (CEM) the school staff will not provide
‘remote
schooling’ for those children remaining at home. Staff will
direct their teaching to the classroom curriculum. Please refer
below to the
expectations as delivered through CEM: ‘All students in the year
levels returning to onsite learning are
expected to attend school. Schools are not expected to provide a
home-based learning program for students in these year levels, or
in
specialist schools, where parents elect to keep these students
at home, except where this is based on medical advice.’
Coronavirus Advice
Please read attached advice for Schools and Families on Medical
Vulnerability during the
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic located on page 9.

Social and Emotional Learning We have continued to focus on
“Elasticity” and “Bouncing Back”. This is because parent feedback
suggested many children were anxious about returning after such a
long time. The children from Years Prep- Six have been using
picture story books to explore how characters react when things go
awry. I have linked some of books we have used for discussion
here:
“Oh the places you’ll go” Dr Seuss “The Kangaroo who couldn’t
hop” by Robert Cox “Danny’s Egg” by Colin Thiele
The main teaching point for the children in the sessions this
week is that feelings aren’t permanent, they can change. Our key
learnings have been:
It is ok to feel sad/lonely/frightened/anxious
Feelings are not permanent and can change- bounce back.
We can do things to make us feel better.
There are people that can support us when we are not feeling our
happiest.
Managing Your Child’s Anxiety - Michael Grose
“If your child feels anxious, reassure them that these feelings
are a normal response to new people, events or potentially
challenging situations. Help your child understand that there is a
great deal they can do to manage their anxious feelings, so they
can get on with the activities they enjoy.” To read Michael’s full
article click here.

Australia's leading parenting educators.
Circle Time Circle Time has continued this week, with classroom
teachers in Prep-Two classes running their own sessions and
Christine visiting the Year 3&4 classes. The time is used to
build relationships in the classroom and to reinforce the learning
from the SEL
lessons about Bouncing Back! The children in Years 3&4
learnt a new game called “No Smiling Please”. If you have time you
may like to have a game at home!!
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Australia The teachers have continued
to support our “Bear Hunt Window” during isola-tion and we have
uploaded photos of our new additions to the “We’re Going on a Bear
Hunt Australia” Facebook page. This has been a fun way to connect
with neighbours and local families and to promote our school as a
fun place to be. It has also been great for the teachers to have
something fun to do when they missed having the children on-site so
much. The description on the Facebook page says “So many Australian
children know and love the book “We’re Going On a Bear Hunt”...
Let’s turn it into a game! Put a teddy in a window for local kids
to spot on their neighbourhood walks. Teddies in windows likely to
bring some much needed smiles in what is a very difficult time for
many ♥️ Please add your friends! “
