Senja itu di pantai Kuta. Langit di ufuk sana mulai memerah. Cantik! Orang-orang tumpah ruah menikmati sunset. Berbagai warna, berbagai gaya dan berbagai tingkah polah orang-orang. Sal-ing menikmati detik-detik terbenamnya matahari sore. Sementara itu beberapa anak usia sekolah dasar dan SMP sedang asyik bernyanyi sembari memetik gitar. Menyanyikan lagunya Ryme In Peace-nya Bondan Prakoso.

Kami (tim Magic Wave) pun duduk terpa-ku menyaksikan bocah-bocah ini memetik gitar, bernyanyi dan saling menikmati sore itu. Beberapa Putri Ombak duduk tak jauh dari kami ikut menikmati senja yang telah dianugerahkan alam semesta. Petikan gi-tar, sunset, laut, ombak, pasir, mawar, Putri Ombak, surfer cilik, bola, ah...semua tak ada yang menandingi sore itu. Tak sampai hati menghentikan keasyikan anak-anak menyanyikan lagu mereka.

Setelah semua puas bernyanyi, Magic Wave mengajak ngobrol anak-anak tadi. Ada Febri (14tahun) yang tadi memetik gitar, Ryan (15tahun) yang memakai baju bertuliskan “Padma Boy”, Riki dengan kaos oblong putihnya dan Dany (9tahun) dengan kaos Hurleynya. Mereka adalah surfer muda, istilahnya grommet. Mereka memang senang berkumpul di Halfway Kuta, di tempatnya Anto (ayah Dany). Berikut penuturan mereka yang senang nongkrong sore-sore di sana.

Ryan : Awalnya diajak Raju, trus kenal den-gan teman-teman di sini. Teman-teman di sini baik-baik, selain itu juga bisa lihat sunset, dan cewek-cewek cantik...hehehe. Tapi biasanya sih ada 6-7 orang anak-anak yang nongkrong di sini setiap harinya.

Febri : Bosan surfing ya main dan makan di sini sambil nyanyi-nyanyi. Ke-betulan kita tinggal di Legian, jadi dekat kalau ke sini.

Riki : Di sini teman-temannya baik-baik. Trus kita suka juga main bola setelah surfing. Jadi asyik!

Dany : Di sini selain nemenin bapak (Anto), ya main sama teman-teman, surfing bareng walaupun masih belajar dengan longboat (karena Dany yang pal-ing kecil di sini-red), main bola, dan lihat sunset.

Begitu ditanyakan kepada Dany apa dia suka membaca Magic Wave, “Iya suka banget! Soalnya banyak anak-anaknya. Pernah juga “masuk” di Magic Wave. Ras-anya bangga banget. Trus dikasih ke ibu

guru di sekolah” jawab Dany polos diiringi gelak tawa teman-temannya yang ikut mendengarkan obrolan dengan Dany.

Anak-anak menyebut tempat nongkrong mereka ini dengan sebutan “Warung Dany”. Warung Dany ini dikelola oleh ayahnya, Anto (32tahun). Pria asal Luma-jang ini mengaku bahwa sudah sejak 6-7tahun yang lalu membuka usaha kedai kecil-kecilan di sini. Dia generasi ke dua, setelah bapaknya. “Dulu di sini sepi, gak seperti sekarang” ujar Anto menjelaskan.

Sebenarnya yang disebut “Warung Dany” oleh anak-anak ini dalam bentuk fisiknya tidak bisa juga dikatakan warung. Karena tidak ada bangunan apa-apa, yang ada adalah beberapa “krak” minuman, mulai dari soft drink sampai beer. Serta beber-apa bangku plastik dan tempat berbar-ing/ berjemur di salah satu sudut Halfway Kuta, tepatnya persis di pantai depan Te-quilla Bar. Tidak ada atap atau tenda besar yang memayungi, tak takut hujan karena Bali merupakan daerah tropis seperti kebanyakan kota-kota lain di Indonesia yang curah hujannya tidak tinggi. Begitu matahari sudah benar-benar tenggelam, dan orang-orang sudah pulang, Anto-pun mengumpulkan semua properti jualannya di satu sudut dan menutupnya dengan terpal.

“Pantai di Indonesia itu memang indah luar biasa. Hal itu patut disyukuri orang Indonesia. Waktu ke luar negri ya, tidak seperti di Indonesia pantainya, gersang dan airnya dingin banget, jadi juga gak enak untuk berenang” ucap Amanda yang sore itu juga duduk di Warung Dany

menikmati sunset bersama personel Putri Ombak lainnya. Patut diingat nih, Putri Ombak itu lahirnya di sini (Warung Dany) bulan Agustus tiga tahun yang lalu. “Dulu kita sering nongkrong di sini, selain tempatnya strategis, feelingnya juga udah langsung nyangkut dengan tempat ini” jelas Dewi yang sering ngumpul dan surf-ing dengan teman-teman Putri Ombak di Kuta.

Sunset di Kuta hampir selesai, Magic Wave pun tak mau ketinggalan untuk men-coba menikmatinya sambil bermain bola seperti yang dikatakan anak-anak tadi. Tak lupa juga kami ajak Dhea (surfer cilik yang juga anaknya Anto) dan Andy teman Magic Wave dari Padang. Deuh...memang rock n roll rasanya, menyenangkan! Bali selain dianugrahi kebudayaan yang luar biasa, juga pantainya yang sangat indah!


19th February 2013, SINDHU BEACH - Sanur, Bali: Rip Curl GromSearch 1st series finally went ahead this Tuesday, after a postponement of the actual scheduled event last Sunday 17th.Lack of waves over the weekend de-layed the competition to Tuesday 19 February in favour of more suitable swell conditions.Rip Curl’s event manager explained: “Our objective of running the event with the local Boardriders this year is to have regional qualifiers so the best surfers from each area are represented at the National Finals. Sanur Boardriders decided to run the contest on Tuesday due to the best swell con-ditions and potential stormy weather this coming weekend”.Rip Curl’s objective with this new for-mat of running regional events with Boardrider Clubs is to give everyone a fair chance of qualifying for the National Final in Bali later this year. This is also the opportunity for everyone to be in with a shot at winning the ultimate prize of a trip to the world finals at Bells Beach

Australia for the international final in 2014. On this first day of GromSearch Event, 28 Grommets from all over Sa-nur area have been competing under the “Under 16th” category (16 kids) and the “Under 14th” category (12 kids). Event coordinator said: “Despite the postponement of the actual sched-ule, it’s really good to have Rip Curl GromSearch in Sanur and it’s running very well. Hopefully next year we can have it again here in Sanur area, maybe in different spots!”.The best tricks of the day was won by Ketut Agus in Boys division and Ju-lika for the Girls division during the Expression Session. They re-ceived Skullcandy prizes as a reward for their impressive manoeuvres.In “Under 14th” division, the winner is Kadek Sulaksana, followed by Ben (2nd), Fajar Ariana (3rd) and Rossi (4th). The event was very challenging for grommets. For instance, during the Semi-Finals, there was this exciting heat, where the young Fajar Ariana (8 years old) defeated one of the older surfers (14 years old)

Regarding the “Under 16th” divi-sion results, Angga Bayu won the competition while Made Tedi won the 2nd place, Ketut Parta the 3rd place and Kaleb Sukadis the 4th place. The four win-ners of the “Under 16th” division have all been given a direct ticket to the Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals in Bali.

During the full day of surfing, chil-dren also helped with cleaning up the beach receiving Stickers and Sticky Bumps wax for their efforts as a reward of their participation to the Event.Next GromSearch will be run in Pandawa beach, Nusa Dua this Sunday 24th February. 24 February 2013, PANDAWA BEACH – Nusa Dua, Bali: Last Sunday, Grommets battled for top place honours at the 2nd series of the Rip Curl GromSearch 2013 on the beautiful white sand’s of Pandawa beach. 3 to 4 foot waves were served up, offering the Groms perfect sized conditions to show-off there skills during the entire day.A total of 58 Grom’s competed in a warm friendly atmosphere, challenging them-selves to get the coveted prize of a ticket to the Na-tional finals. “This contest was supported by Bukit Boardriders who helped us with the or-ganization. It was a very challenging contest for the kids with lots of rivalry and perfect conditions. It was really nice to see such a good entry for this event with amazing support from the parents. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun and it was a great atmosphere” commented Rip Curl’s Team Manager - Dylan Amar.In the final of the Under 16 boys it was Riman Jayadi of Lombok who took first place honours with a huge Frontside aierial halfway

through the heat. Second place was Tommy Sobry from Bingin who put in a solid performance as did Raju Sena from Padma in 3rd Place and Max De Santis in 4th. The three highest placed finishers on the podium walked away with tickets to the GromSearch National Finals in Bali later this year. All of the finalists also received Rip Curl, Skullcandy and Shapers prizes as a reward for their performances.Moreover, Putu Samara Yasa was selected as the highest placed Local Grommet, therefore also winning a Wild Card ticket to GromSearch National Finals.For Under 14’s boys division, Japanese Grom Keitaro blazed the heat with power-ful smooth turns eventually gaining a total score of 43.5 points scooping first place. Closely following in second position was his friend Yuji Nishi

with Ketut Matius and Samsul Hadi in 3rd and 4th respectively. “I’m very happy as it is my first contest in Bali. It was hard conditions in the final but in the end I found some good waves and won the contest – I’m so stoked!” Keitaro said.Alongside the Boys there were some fantastic performances from a strong group of local Girls who also racked-up the points all day. Eventual top placings were taken by an on-fire Cinta Hansel who outpaced her competitors in an extraordinary way (38.2 pts), giving her best friend Taina the second position (23.5 pts), followed by Giada Legati (23.1 pts) and Kailani (16 pts).The day was finished with a beach clean- up by all the competitors. The aim was to collect all non-organic waste in order to educate the Groms in environmental actions. One funny fact from the clean up effort was one of the kids accidentally collected a dead fish leav-ing everybody asking themselves where was this disgusting smell coming from!Additionally, children participated in a Rip Curl Quiz, where they were asked several questions

regarding the GromSearch Event. The win-ners were rewarded with lots of Rip Curl Prizes for their contribution.The overall atmosphere was fun and excit-ing with crew supporting each other as a big family. Next GromSearch will be run in Canggu on March 10. Sunday 26th May, Medewi, Bali – The rocky black sand beach of Medewi hosted over 40 grommets for one of the most challenging competitions of the GromSearch Series 2013.

Grom’s competed hard all day in three categories: the “under 14” division, the “under 16” division and the Girls division.

In the “Under the 16 division”, the rampaging Reef Doig smashed his competitors with 22.45 points, closely fol-lowed by powerful Rio Waida (22.0 points), Riman Jayadi (19.35) and Febriansa (10.65). Rio Waida, Aldy Maulana, Novi Rahman, Adi Suhariman were all given a ticket to National Finals and will join the other Groms next September in Bali to compete in the National GromSearch Finals.

Fast, clean and spectacular maneuvers of Rip Curl team rider Ketut Agus gave himfirst place for the “Under 14 division”. Sonny Perusel (10.65 points), Tenshi Ishij (9.55 points) and Samsul Hadi (9.25 points) respectively won 2nd, 3rd and 4th place with amazingly strong performances in the challenging point waves.

Undaunted by the heavy waves, the Girls put on one of the most impressive performances ever seen at a GromSearch event showing they have an amazing

amount of determination and courage.

Madewi

Paddling hard to get the best waves Me-dewi had to offer it was the powerful and controlled turns of Kailani that won her first place with 6.85 points, followed by Hayana in 2nd (6.0 points), Ciada Legati 3rd (5.95 points) and Dhea Natasya in 4th place (5.5 points).

A significant number of competitors par-ticipated in the expression session, were Komang Adi won first place thanks to two powerful aerials in the same wave, and Halik won second place thanks to his quick and perfect landed aerial.

Winners were all given a pack of Rip Curl goodies including stickers, bags, shirts andSticky Bumps wax before leaving the po-dium to the applause of supporters.

After fulfilling their environmental re-sponsibility with the usual clean-up of the beach, Groms played several fun games. The winners of the caterpillar race and of the musical chair games were rewarded with Rip Curl giveaways.
