Happy Holidays from the Boys and Girls Club of Eden

Let the Games Begin!! The Boys and Girls Club of Eden fi nished up the year, with their annual Holiday Party. Fri-day, December 19th, staff and members came together after regular hours to make the holidays festive! The members played games for prizes, participated in group activities, ate pizza, decorated cookies, or just relaxed! “The Club is a place for the members to be in control of their decisions, so they can learn to make good ones,” says Assistant Program Director, Lauren Pszonak. “We want the Christmas Party to let them keep their independence while they have many fun options available to them!” The party was a success due to the many contributions from the community, and local businesses, as well as the volunteers who came out to help. The Boys and Girls Club would like to thank the com-munity for their endless support in helping the members here become the leaders of tomorrow. Happy Holidays!

Change in NYS Law for Electronics Recycling – Effective January 1st, 2015

In accordance with the disposal ban requirements of Section 27-2611 of the Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act, on January 1st, 2015, it will become unlawful for residential households in New York State to place electronic equipment at the curb for disposal.

Due to this change in law, Waste Management will no longer be collecting electronic waste at the curb after 12/31/14 – even if segregated from the rest of the household trash.

Beginning January 1, 2012, with the exception of individual and household consumers, all other NYS consumers including businesses, private or public corporations, not for profit corporations and gov-ernment entities, etc. were prohibited from disposing of, or place for collection intended for disposal, electronic waste (such as computers, computer peripherals, televisions, small scale servers, and small electronic equipment, etc.)

Beginning January 1, 2015, this disposal ban will apply to all persons in the state, including indi-vidual and household consumers.____________________________________________________________________________However, consumers and homeowners do have other options for recycling their electronic waste.

New York State law requires manufacturers to take responsibility for recycling many types of electron-ic equipment they have produced, such as computers, computer peripherals, televisions, small scale servers, and small electronic equipment, etc. Manufacturers now provide free and convenient accep-tances programs for NYS consumers to properly reuse and recycle their waste electronic equipment.

• Retailers that sell electronics offer free recycling of electronic waste. This is in cooperation with the manufacturers of electronics and an extension of their responsibility to operate in New York State.

Cataldo named to St. John Fisher College 2014 Dean’s List

Kyle Cataldo, son of Jennifer Cataldo, North Collins has been named to the Fall 2014 Dean's List at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York. Cataldo a Sophomore is a Media Mangement major. To be eligible for the Dean's List at St. John Fisher Col-lege, a student must have attained at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the semester. St. John Fisher College is an independent, liberal arts institution in the Catholic tradition of American higher education. The College emphasizes liberal learning for students in traditional academic disciplines, as well as for those in more directly career-oriented fi elds. The College welcomes qualifi ed students, faculty, and staff regardless of religious or cultural background. The campus is situated on 154 park-like acres-a beauti-ful setting for 24 modern buildings and a warm, friendly campus community. The College now off ers 32 academic majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, and nursing, as well as 10 preprofessional pro-grams. Rein in the Holidays For the 2nd year the Eden Stampede 4-H club helped "Rein in the Holiday's" with Clyde's Feed in Hamburg. This event, held on Saturday December 6th, really got us into the holiday spirit while we sold our homemade cookies, smiled and laughed with customers, and visited with Santa!

By Sam StruckhoffPICKS OF THE WEEK“Boyhood” (R) -- Over the course of 12 years, direc-tor Richard Linklater made a fi lm about growing up in which we get to see an ac-tor age. Mason (Ellar Col-trane) lives with his mom (Patricia Arquette) and his spastic older sister (Lore-lei Linklater). Every so of-ten, their rolling-stone dad (Ethan Hawke) comes back around to teach the kid a lesson about being a man or voicing his feelings. It’s a big story told in a series of small moments.Starting when he was just 7 years old, Ellar Coltrane worked on the fi lm shoot with Linklater for a little while each summer. The result is Mason’s coming-of-age story, in which we see how a contemplative boy caught between his es-tranged parents changes over years. It may not be the most life-altering story, but it truly is a unique movie-watching experience.

“Get On Up” (PG-13) -- James Brown, the Godfa-ther of Soul, lived one of those lives made for musi-cal biopics. He grew up im-poverished in a dusty part of Georgia with an abusive father (Lennie James) and a mother who walked out (Vi-ola Davis). Chadwick Bose-man (the lead in last year’s Jackie Robinson biopic, “42”), brings Brown to life with a crackling energy and fervent commitment. Director Tate Taylor (“The Help”) shows the highs, lows and explosive performances that defi ned the man. Behind the scenes, Brown could be a tyrant and a monster con-sumed by drugs and ego, but a completely different vision comes out when he’s break-ing himself down on stage. The wild use of fl ashbacks and uneven pacing can be

diffi cult, but Boseman’s per-formance keeps you watch-ing and caring.

“Horns” (R) -- Ig Parrish (Daniel Radcliffe) and Meri Williams (Juno Temple) are two little lovebirds, until Meri’s body is found bru-talized in the woods. Ig, even with his boy-next-door looks, becomes the prime suspect and the most hated guy in town. Depressed and reviled over a crime he didn’t commit, Ig starts to grow horns, literally. As Ig’s visage becomes more devilish, people around him feel compelled to spill their darkest desires to him, seek-ing permission to do the bad things they really want to do. It’s a dark fantasy thrill-er comedy with a new twist, but it’s so distracted that it can’t settle on a tone. A lack

of tonal clarity makes it hardto laugh at jokes or gasp atdrama.

“Left Behind” (PG-13) --This is a religious disasterfl ick that goes light on thereligion and comes out asan overall disaster. Nicolas Cage (oh yes) stars as Ray-ford Steele (cool name, bro),a morally impure airlinepilot who gets left behindwhen the biblical rapturetakes all of the good peopleto heaven. He’s fl ying acommercial jet over the At-lantic ocean when a bunchof people disappear, leavingonly empty clothes behind.Rayford has to safely landthe plane -- which seemspretty diffi cult, even though he’s a pilot -- while his col-lege-age daughter wanders apartially emptied New York City.
