The baptism of infants is generally celebrated on Sundays. Please arrange with Fr Zhang or Dcn Sung at least one month ahead of time. Adults interested in becoming members of the Catholic Church please

神父話語(本堂張春祥神父) 有關聖誕樹上的一個小故事帶來的小小反省

聖誕節的腳步越來越近了，家家都點亮了窗前燈與聖誕樹來提醒著我們每一個人：聖誕節馬上到

了，我們該慶祝了！不知道大家有沒有注意到聖誕樹上的裝飾，有霓虹彩燈、金屬色的小球、雪

花的圖案、以及偶爾還會有棉絮纏繞。今天我們就來說一說這棉絮的意義。

耶穌誕生在馬槽之後，黑落德—當時猶太人的國王聽說耶穌是將來的國王，由於嫉妒他想盡力地

維護自己的統制與權威，所以下令尋找耶穌並將他殺死在襁褓中，以免將來權位不保。這也是他

為什麼當時下令將所有兩歲以下兒童都殺死的原因。相傳，當時耶穌和瑪利亞若瑟就在原來的那

個山洞，他們還沒有來得及逃走的時候，黑落德王的軍隊就到處搜索兩歲以下兒童了。為了保護

小耶穌不受迫害，蜘蛛們趕緊跑到耶穌住的那個山洞，緊張地在山洞入口織起了網。當搜索人員

到達山洞的時候，他們看到蜘蛛網，就認為這個山洞肯定是很久沒有人住了，否則也不會有那麼

密密麻麻的蜘蛛網。於是他們就離開那個山洞到別處尋找耶穌了。蜘蛛們運用他們織的網救了耶

穌一命。所以啊，到現在為止，我們偶爾還會看到聖誕馬槽中或聖誕樹上的棉花絮，那棉花絮就

代表著蜘蛛曾經保護小耶穌的網。

雖然這是一個故事，可帶領我進入一個反省。我在今年的聖誕節到來之時可以用我的力量維護耶

穌的安全嗎？或者在我的生命中，我也可以保護一下小耶穌？耶穌在世曾說過：“凡你們對我這

些最小兄弟中的一個所做的，就是對我做的。”（瑪 25:40）或許我在今年的聖誕節之際可以找

到一個“最小兄弟”而為耶穌做些什麼？為他織張保護的網，或為他織張溫暖的網？甚或為他織

一張吃得飽的網？願弟兄姐妹們今年的聖誕節都過得有意義。

A Little Reflection: A Story about the Christmas Tree by Reverend Joseph Zhang

Christmas is around the corner. Every family lights up the lamps and Christmas trees at the windows to remind every one of us: Christmas is coming and we should celebrate! I do not know if you all have noticed the decorations on the Christmas tree. There are neon lights, metal-colored balls, snowflakes and sometimes cotton fibers. Let us talk about the meaning of the cotton fibers. After Jesus was born in the manger, Herod, King of the Jewish people, heard that Jesus would become the future king. Out of envy he tried to maintain his rule and authority, so he gave orders to seek Jesus and kill him in swaddling clothes so that he could keep his throne. That was why he ordered to kill all the children under age two. It was said that when Jesus, Mary and Joseph stayed in a cave and had no time to escape, the soldiers sent by Herod were searching for children under age two everywhere. In order to protect the little Jesus from murder, spiders rushed to the cave that Jesus was in and they weaved a net at the entrance diligently. When the soldiers reached the cave, they saw the thick spider net and thought the cave had been empty for a long while. So, they left the cave to look for Jesus elsewhere. Spiders saved Jesus with their nets. Therefore, today we still see cotton fibers in the Christmas manger or on Christmas trees, which represent the nets spiders used to protect Jesus. Although this is just a tale, it leads us into a reflection. When Christmas comes this year, can I protect Jesus’ safety with my strength? Or, can I protect the little Jesus in my life? Jesus said in his lifetime: “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). Maybe I can do something for the “least brothers”, for Jesus? To weave a net of protection, a net of warmth for him? Or even a net of satiety? May all our brothers and sisters spend a meaningful Christmas this year. Merry Christmas, everyone! Peace and happiness be with you all!
