LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

The love relationship that exists among the Persons of the Holy Trinity is both intense and intimate. As beautiful as this teaching is, it demonstrates how human language really pales in trying to capture the essence of God. The Father brings us to the creative, powerful, yet gently meticulous part of God who has brought mountains and hills into being, as well as each of his children. Still the Father is more than this. The Son demonstrates the unconditional love of God filled with endless mercy and compassion. This love really understands the journey of the marginalized and the poor and has no use for created powers and structures that alienate and hurt people. But the Son is even more than this. The Holy Spirit is the breath of God who teaches wisdom and brings understanding, who governs the seasons and discerns the thoughts of human hearts. Yet the Holy Spirit is still more than this. We worship a God who is beyond and also intimately bonded to all that he has made, without whom nothing could be sustained in being. Praise the Holy Trinity!

BIBLE TIMELINE STUDY: Session 21 (The Church – Part 1) will be May 31 (7:45 p.m.) or June 2 (9:30 a.m.). Read the suggested verses from the Acts. And to go deeper, answer the questions in the book and read what is recommended. If you have not already done so, sign-up for Remind (@hrBible) and subscribe to our YouTube page: “Holy Redeemer Catholic Church”. Links to all of Fr Dorn’s notes and lesson videos can be found on our website (www.hrcatholic.org) on the social media page.

As always, pray before you read.

There will be No Nursery available through the summer. If you have questions or wish to help when it starts back up in the fall, please contact the parish office or Jenny Sailer.

HOLY REDEEMER STEPHEN MINISTRIES WHY LAY MINISTRY? The Stephen Series, in which Holy Redeemer recently enrolled, is designed to train laypeople for caring ministry. Loving others in Jesus’ name is a challenge and an opportunity for all who are God’s children. Likewise, the joy of helping others is the privilege of all Christians, for the Holy Spirit has given gifts to each Christian to use in service to others and to build

up the church (1 Corinthians 12:7-11). Stephen Ministry will rely on the gifts the Holy Spirit has given to our lay members to that, as more people are equipped to care, Christ’s love for us will be able to go out from us in a greater and more effective way than it does now. Please prayerfully discern if you are being called to help in any way to those in need. For more information, please contact Linda Kuenning at 419-302-2223 or Ellen Topp at 419-733-4440.

“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Christians are no

strangers to sacrifice. Jesus lays down his life for our redemption, martyrs remain faithful to the

end, and every believer faces “deaths” in the spiritual life when love requires a re-ordering of

preference and priority. On Memorial Day, we honor those who laid down their lives for their nation and for the values

we espouse – freedom, justice, and a better world for our children. In a day that often fills with

barbeques and boat launches, remember to take some time in prayer! Intercede for those who have

died and for the loved ones they left behind and pray for peace on earth.

Today, we celebrate the Graduation of our seniors from High School. The closing of a chapter and the opening of

another. Listen closely to the Concluding Rites from Mass. Father will say, "Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.”

A call to live what has been celebrated. It is about protecting the grace received in the sacrament, so that it will bear fruits

in our lives every day. We are not alone in this commitment; the Lord accompanies us and "works with us". How do we

most effectively do this? We read in James 4:17 “Everyone who knows what is the right thing to do and does not do it

commits a sin.” So, we must do the right thing. God places many things upon our hearts, we must listen and then do. Seems

simple, but if you’re like me you have places to go and things to do and you stop listening to those requests of your heart.

May all of us, especially our seniors, learn to Glorify the Lord by our life. Please keep these students in your prayers.

GOSPEL MEDITATION – May 27, 2018 – Most Holy Trinity

Happy Trinity Sunday! In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit. The term “economic” has its roots in the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning “household management.” The economic Trinity is our three-Personed God’s relationship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing relationship with us. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to imitate God’s immanence by giving and receiving love with one another in community. However, this is not limited only to those close to us, though that’s where love often starts. We also imitate the economy of God when we go out, when we extend our love and care in a life-giving way. “Go therefore …” Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to follow Jesus and the Apostles “to the nations,” to the margins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create something beautiful—a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you creating something beautiful?

MASS SCRIPTURE READINGS & REFLECTIONS

This Week – May 27 – Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity First Reading – Deuteronomy 4:32-34,39-40:

“This is why you must now know, and fix in your heart, that the LORD is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and that

there is no other.” (Dt 4:39)

Moses recounts to the Israelites, just prior to their entry into the Promised Land, all the miraculous work done by God

that they witnessed. Why do you think Moses placed such a high premium on remembering their story?

Second Reading – Romans 8:14-17:

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (Rom 8:16)

Paul speaks to the believers in the city of Rome, “who are led by the Spirit,” as being “joint heirs with Christ” as

children of God. In what way do you find hope in this message from Paul?

Gospel – Matthew 28:16-20:

Then Jesus approached and said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make

disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” (Mt 28:18-19)

Jesus’ final command to the disciples before his ascension is to baptize all the nations “in the name of the Father, and of

the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” How do you see the Church being faithful to this command?

Next Week – June 3 – Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) First Reading – Exodus 24:3-8

“This is the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words of his.” (Ex 24:8b)

After receiving the law at Mount Sinai, Moses sealed God’s covenant by sprinkling the blood of young slain bulls on the

people and on the altar he erected. What do you think was the meaning of this ritual?

Second Reading – Hebrews 9:11-15

For this reason he is mediator of a new covenant. (Heb 9:15a)

Hebrews speaks of Jesus as the “mediator of a new covenant” because his blood sacrifice brought eternal redemption for

all believers. How is this a compelling explanation for the cross of Christ?

Gospel Reading – Mark 14:12-16, 22-26

He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.” (Mk 14:24)

Today, we hear Mark’s account of the institution of the Eucharist. Jesus speaks to the disciples about the Passover meal’s

bread and wine as his body and blood which “will be shed for many.” How do you think the disciples reacted to this

revelation?

In many cases, the Catholic Church provides a solution through the Declaration of Nullity process. For others,

information is all that is needed to help get an understanding of the Church’s teachings and get them on the path to reconciliation. SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM: Agape will be offering their Summer Feeding Program bags again this year. Hard to believe that this will be our twelfth year. Since we provide these bags to all the students who were enrolled in their respective schools free and reduced breakfast and/or lunch feeding programs, we potentially could offer these bags to 1,057 students each month. While this is a staggering number of students who are enrolled, we provide for an average of 910 to 965 bags each month. Each student will receive a total of 41 shelf stable items, 6 cold and frozen items, and 5 soft and squishy items. These are packed into a total of 3 bags. The shelf stable items can be pre-packed, but the cold and frozen and the soft and squishy must to be packed as needed. This requires a substantial amount of work. This is why we require volunteer groups to assist in these packing parties. If you have adults and children that have time during the day, evenings, or Saturdays, please let us know so we can make arrangements to have them pack bags for us. Give us a call at (419) 394-8700 or send an e-mail to [email protected]. We can certainly use the help and it really is a great time for everyone. Children can decorate the small snack bags and the adults can pack the bags with goodies. Please help us help our communities.

Question: What is a sacramental seal and where did it come from?

Answer: Leaving more than just a memory, there are some events in our life that are truly transforming, making us different people. The same thing can be said of spiritual things, especially sacraments. A sacramental seal or character is a theological concept to describe the life-changing and permanent effect of three sacraments on the person: baptism, confirmation, and holy orders. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that these sacraments confer a seal “by which the Christian shares in Christ’s priesthood and is made a member of the Church according to different states and functions. This configuration to Christ and the Church, brought about by the Spirit, is indelible” (#1121). Once we receive these sacraments, we are forever changed. It’s a spiritual “point of no return” whereby we take a step forward in our faith journey. We are marked as people of faith, as those who have received the Spirit and as those called to serve in ordained ministry. That is why these sacraments are received only once. The direction is set, the choice is made, and we are called by God to be his people. Nothing can change that, not even our own sinfulness. If you have questions about what we do at Mass, please send an e-mail to [email protected] for explanation in a future bulletin.

DID YOU KNOW? Shown here, the stained-glass window in the baptistry, made of faceted glass, is the work of Patrick A. White. It depicts the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove descending. Streams of water extend from a Baptismal shell to the Baptismal font.
