He gives the impression of being a ‘jack of all trades’ but, in reality, he is a master of none. Some say you have to pay him to be recognized! His events have been disasters but he still keeps hoodwinking the gullible! T here are quite a few Sri Lankan bands (some with a couple of foreigners as members), operating in Melbourne. And they are all doing pretty well, in the scene over there. However, there is one particular outfit that is awesome, at the moment – Rap-So-D – and checking out their work schedule, I would say they are certainly top of the pops! They have been classified as Melbourne’s premier cover band and that is precisely why they are in great demand. Most of the big, prestigious dances, in Melbourne, feature Rap-So-D. They did a non stop dance party, in May. In the same month they provided the music for “Starry, Starry Night,” organized by Musaeus College Past Pupils’ Association of Victoris. And the dance was ‘sold out’ long before the scheduled date. Two other ‘sold out’ dances, featuring Rap- So-D were the Fundraiser Charity Night, held on August 15th, and the Jolly J’s 25th International Silver Jubilee Dinner Dance, which took place on August 22nd. They were also seen in action at the Colombo University Alumni Association of Victoria Annual Dinner Dance, held on August 1st. Future dates include Visakha Dinner Dance, August 29th, Old Antonian Social Club of Australia 34 Annual Dinner Dance, September 5th, The Bishopian Ball, September 12th, Devi Night 2015, presented by Devi Balika Past Pupils Association Australia, The Past Pupils’ Association of OLV and SSC Moratuwa Dinner Dance, October 10th, and Thurstan College OBU Australia Dinner Dance, October 31st. What makes Rap-So-D a major attraction is their playlist which includes top hits from the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and some of the current chart favourites, as well. They do a bit of Country, and lots of Reggae, Classical Jazz, RnB, Pop Rock, Rap and Baila. “Blending all these musical flavours, we give you, what we believe, is the best mix of music played today by a dance band,” says Ash (Ashok) Jayasinha, who handles vocals, along with his wife, Allison. He also stated that the entertainment aspect is very high in their pri- orities. The rest of the members of Rap-So-D are - Carl Jayasinghe (bass guitar), Malcolm McCormick (keyboards), Chathura Peiris (lead guitar) and Francis Almeida (drums). “D isco Lady” hitmaker, Alston Koch, is gain- ing recognition in the States, as well. The singer, who is now based in LA, finds himself playing an active role in The Family Film Awards – which is all about the family. “I want to put more love in America,” said Antonio Gellini, founder of the Family Film Awards. The Family Film Awards was estab- lished in 1995 as Gellini wanted there to be more films about fami- lies. Gellini created this competition so filmmakers would up the ante on fami- ly-related projects. The first Family Film Awards aired on August 22nd, 1996. Alston, took a very active role, in this year’s event, and has now been invited to host the event, which takes place on Thursday, August 27th (2015). O ne Direction, Pharrell Williams, Florence + The Machine and Disclosure have been confirmed to perform at the 2015 Apple Music Festival. The event - previously known as the iTunes Festival – will run at London’s Roundhouse, from September 19 to September 28. “It’ll be great to be back in London,” One Direction’s Niall says, “We can’t wait to perform for our fans in the Roundhouse, and around the world, on Apple Music! See you there!” Pharrell adds: “Wow, I’m so grateful to be performing at the Apple Music Festival. The Roundhouse is such a historic venue ... there’s always a special energy in the crowd. Thank you for having me!” UK residents can apply to win tickets on Apple Music, and through media partners, and fans around the world will be able to view the shows on-demand, via Apple Music, with coverage on Beats 1, as well as backstage news and footage from artistes on Apple Music Connect. “We wanted to do something really special for music fans this year,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s sen- ior vice-president of Internet Software and Services. “The Apple Music Festival is a greatest hits set of 10 unbelievable nights, featuring some of the best performers, on the planet, appear- ing live and interacting directly with their fans on Connect and Beats 1.” The confirmed Apple Music Festival dates, so far, are: September 22 - One Direction, 25 – Disclosure, 26 - Pharrell Williams, 28 - Florence + the Machine.
