Annual Holiday Canned Goods Donation Jessica Meyers, MD The Holidays are soon approaching and at this time of the year, when we all pause to give thanks for all of the amazing gifts that we have, we also think about those in the community that are struggling. Each year, the anesthesia residents/ faculty/staff have collected canned goods to be donated to the Foodbank of Central Carolina. Boxes will placed in various locations around the 5th Floor of the HAFS building. We will be delivering the food on December 17th, 2011. This year, in ADDITION to the Foodbank (via the suggestion of Dr. Wahl), we will be donating to PORCH (People Offering Relief for Chapel Hill and Carrboro Homes) which stocks the shelves of 6 local food pantries and helps those right in our own backyard. We have a wonderful and generous group of residents/faculty/CRNAs/ staff...please donate what you can! Dr. Howard Eisenson, Executive Director, Duke Diet and Fitness Center and Associ- ate Professor, Department of Community and Family Medicine nominated him be- cause of Dr. Olson’s years of dedicated leadership of the medical volunteers at TROSA (Triangle Residential Options for Substance Abusers, Inc.). Dr. Olson will be presented with the award along with the other award winners on De- cember 14, 2011 at the University Club in University Tower. Congratula- tions Dr. Olson! Dream Campaign Fiscal Year 2012 Goal The DREAM Innovation Grant (DIG) supports innovative high-risk, and potentially high-re- ward investigations to accelerate anesthesia and pain management research. Our goal is to raise $90,000, which will allow us to fund three $30K DIG recipients in 2013. The winners of this grant will be announced in October 2012. Total raised to date: $25,350.
