A perfect square is the product of a RATIONAL NUMBER multiplied by itself

The number that was originally multiplied by itself is called the square root of the perfect square.

Example: 30 x 30 = 900    this means 900 is a perfect square

√900 = 30

What are the perfect squares (and their square roots) between 1 and 625?

1 x 1 = 11 1Square Root Perfect Square

2 x 2 = 42 4

Oct 158:12 PM

√25  =  5

Is this the ONLY answer? Are there any other numbers that multiplied by themselves give 25?

Application  the AREA of a square is defined as the amount of space contained inside the sides of the square

AREA

side length

The area can also be described as a PERFECT square whose square root is the SIDE LENGTH of the square

5 cm5x5 = 25 cm2

√Area = Side Length

Oct 158:55 PM

A square garden is 25 feet long.

a) What is the area of the garden?

b) How many feet of fence would you need if you wanted to surround the entire garden?

c) The chain link used to build a fence is sold in 12 foot rolls. If one roll costs $87, how much does it cost you to buy enough fence for your garden? You can NOT buy part of a roll.

BONUS: If you could buy part of a roll, how much would it cost you now to build your fence?
