Nobody saw Keegan Bradley coming, exceptperhaps his father, Mark, a PGA Professionalwho elected to remain secluded in front ofa television in a condominium in Jackson,Wyo., watching his son march into majorchampionship lore.

From his vantage point, with nobody around toadd to his own tension, Mark Bradley saw his25-year-old son cap an unforgettable, frenziedfinal hour of the 93rd PGA Championship atAtlanta Athletic Club. Trailing by five strokes

with just three holes to play, Keegan Bradleylooked glazed when his chip shot ran across the15th green and into the water, leading to a triplebogey. At that point, he reminded himself thathis dream wasnt over, especially with a crucibleof finishing holes left to play at Atlanta AthleticClubs Highlands Course.

I kept telling myself. Dont let that hole definethis whole tournament, said Bradley. That

mental slap led to one of the most stunningturnarounds in major championship history.Bradley stepped up to make back-to-backbirdies, including a 35-footer at 17 that causethe gallery to er upt.

That massive putt accompanied a collapse byJason Dufner, who appeared unflappable allweekend and had the experience of sharing fin the Championship a year ago. But Dufnerhis tee shot in the water on the 15th for the fiof three straight bogeys that dropped him in

a three-hole aggregate score playoff with thesurging Bradley.

Bradley hammered his drive on the 16th hoto open the playoff and noticed something ithe fairway his divot from regulation playless than an hour earlier.

Keegan told me later that he had seen his diand it kind of calmed him, said Mark Bradle

I had texted him on Saturday, By the way, its Hogans birthdaytoday. He and I are big Hogan disciples, and I kind of think thatplayed a little role in helping him.

When Bradley made the putt, it was his first outright lead of the day.He added a two-putt par at 17 and then reached the 471-yard 18thhole that had played havoc with most of the field all week. Dufnerapplied the pressure by hitting his approach to within 20 feet.

Bradley hit his 6-iron approach, and told his father later thathe lost sight of the ball. The roar of the crowd by the 18th green,

who saw the ball settle just inside of Dufners ball, quickly erasedany lingering doubt.

Though Dufner made his final putt, Bradley followed and hada short tap-in to close and become only the third player in

nearly a century to win a major championship in his first try.He joined Francis Ouimet (1913 U.S. Open) and Ben Curtis(2003 Open Championship) in that exclusive club.

Bradley the first major champion to use a belly putter is alsoone of five PGA Champions (following Jack Burke Jr., Dave MarrDavis Love III and Rich Beem) who is the son of a PGA Profession

It seems like a dream, and I hope its real, Bradley said at thechampagne toast in the clubhouse with a gleam in his eye. Thiswas the best conditioned golf course that Ive seen in my life.If I could make one suggestion, you might cut the rough downback of the 15th hole!

The 93rd PGA Championship featured 100 of the top 102 worldranked players, and 68 international competitors representing 2countries. Bradley entered the Championship as the No. 108 in world, yet ended Americas longest drought in the majors, a strethat had reached six.

Bradley closed regulation play with a 2-under-par 68 and matcheDufner at 8-under-par 272. Dufner, who entered the final round

tied for first with Brendan Steele, posted a 69. Denmarks AndeHansen was a stroke back in third after a 66, and 2001 ChampionDavid Toms (67), Swedens Robert Karlsson (67), who suffered thrstraight bogeys after coming within a stroke of the lead, sharedfourth with Scott Verplank (70) at 275.

Dufner was the only player in the field to reach 11-under-par andhad played that four-hole finish in 3-under for the week neveronce making a bogey until the final round.

Everybody has struggled on them, Dufner said of the final fourholes. Unfortunately, I had the lead and I struggled on them that was the deciding factor, and Keegan made a couple birdiesthere, and I made a couple bogeys.

Dufner seemed to have the Wanamaker Trophy in his grasp as hstood on the 15th tee with a four-stroke lead over Anders Hansewho was in the process of making bogey. Then he pushed his teeshot into the water right of the green.

He rallied by making a 12-foot bogey putt and hit his drive in themiddle of the 16th fairway. Moments later, Bradley hit his approto eight feet at 16 and made birdie. Playing one group back, Dufhit his approach into the right bunker, blasted out to 10 feet andmade bogey, his lead now trimmed to two strokes.

Dufner arrived on the 17th tee in time to watch Bradley rattle ina 35-foot birdie putt, which led to the latter pumping his fist as hcaddie stood behind the hole holding the flag over his head withboth arms. Dufner then hit to the middle of the green but ran his fi

putt 10 feet by the hole and three-putted for bogey, forcing a tie.Until his stunning Sunday, Bradley was best known as the nephewof World Golf Hall of Famer Pat Bradley. He won earlier this yeat the HP Byron Nelson Championship in a playoff, again afterthe leader faded on the closing holes.

Bradley said that he hopes his PGA Championship isnt his loneshining moment.

In the event of an injury or a dual winner in a major Championship, The PGA of America has developed a formula to complete the PGA Grand Slam of Golf fi

The Defending Champion receives the initial invitation, then the Major Champions Points List is used to complete the field. This equation incorporates active

past major winners and how they compete in this years major events. The point system awards 150 points for a 2nd place finish in a major event, 125 for 3rd110 for 4th, 100 for 5th, 90 for 6th, 85 for 7th, all the way thru 70th place, which receives 6 points.
