2 NortherN District Fair - Cadillac News www.northerndistricfair.org | August 12-18, 2018
The Northern District Fair has been a pastime for many years, bringing fun and entertainment to the whole family.
Families can enjoy an array of events at the fair this year. Events include a kids power wheel races, big car figure eight and a demo derby, to name a few.
If you like something that is more hands-on, there will be a pie baking contest on Wednesday. Bakers are required to bake two pies; one for judging and one that will be auctioned off. Ag-Olympics is another event where children can get their hands dirty tossing hay bales or competing in tug of war. It takes place on Saturday and is free to the public.
“We are a family venue and everything is directed towards family and children,” said Yvonne Meyer, secretary of the fair.
New this year, a chance to make a smoothie with a bicycle. It’s an MSU Extension demonstration and allows children to see what they’re making in a fun and unique way.
The family summer event will be complete with live animal exhibits, elephant ears and corn dogs, grandstand events, and midway rides.
The gate entrance fee is $2, which allows people to walk around the grounds and see the exhibits. Seniors and veterans will be admitted for free.
The annual Northern District Fair will be open Monday, Aug. 13 through Saturday, Aug. 18.

Dear Friends:
Welcome to the 2018 fair season! Our county fairs are a family tradition for many
Michiganders. It’s an entertainment staple celebrating our agricultural heritage and
showcasing the diversity and innovation of our growing food and ag sector.
Millions of Michigan citizens and tourists attend county fairs every year. In fact,
agriculture has always been an integral part of our state and its future has never been
brighter. It uses cutting-edge technology, incorporates environmental practices, and is
an industry filled with career opportunities.
I am proud of Michigan’s 4-H program and the tremendous accomplishments of
our FFA peers. Thanks to Michigan’s local and county fairs, Michigan youth have the
opportunity to showcase their hard work while educating fairgoers about the state’s food
and agriculture industry. Careers in food and agriculture are limitless – everything from
veterinarians, soil scientists, and microbiologists to metrologists, food scientists,
engineers, and more!
Our county fairs are full of local charm, family fun and agricultural traditions. This
year, be sure to visit a local or county fair as part of your Michigan summer travel plans.
Sincerely,
Rick Snyder
Governor
