You’re brilliant Here’s why

Together we’re helping some of the UK’s most disadvantaged children and their familiesWe’ve been an official charity since the merger in 2008 (though we go back many more years with some of the TUI brands).

Since then we’ve been able to help hundreds more families every year (increasing the number from 1,600 to over 2,000).

That’s hundreds more happy holiday smiles, and hundreds more children getting their first ever ice cream on the beach.

Because you are so important to our work, we produced this to answer some of the questions we are often asked, and to acknowledge the extraordinary contribution you are making.

Thank youYou’re brilliant

Family #1 Mum is a survivor of domestic violence so severe she has been left with permanent brain damage. Escaping this violence has been very difficult for both mum and son but now they are looking forward to a brighter future. A break gave them some time to come to terms with what they have experienced and create new happier memories.

Family #2 Mum is terminally ill and her daughter, in her late teens, is her main carer, and that of her other two young children. This puts immense pressure on the family and they desperately needed a break away to forget their troubles for a while, bond as a family and relax. After their break, Mum called it ‘just the tonic we needed’.

Family #3 If you’ve lived your life on a low income, or with other distressing situations, something simple like booking a few days away seems a really daunting task. If you are going through bereavement, this is so much harder.

When Dad died, his surviving family needed a break desperately so the Family Holiday Association helped them, via their welfare agent, to get away. Since then the welfare agent has noticed a big change in the family’s outlook, or as they put it ‘a fresh breath of life’.

Such a small thing as booking a holiday and dealing with the logistics, no matter how small, has boosted this family’s confidence.

What does the money you raise buy?We help families to get the sort of break that they need. Usually this is a week in caravan at the seaside. But it might also be a short seaside break, a visit to relatives, or even just a day-trip if the family aren’t able to take time away from home.

The money you raise contributes to their travel costs, accommodation, entertainment passes at holiday parks and a very small amount of extra spending money to make sure that the kids have that all important ice cream on the beach.

Thank youYou’re brilliant

Since January 2009 you have raised almost a million pounds! This is the equivalent of seaside breaks for over 2,000 families!

We are delighted to be supporting the Family Holiday Association. Our work together not only fosters a rewarding charity relationship for our colleagues here at TUI Travel PLC but also enables thousands of UK families to take a life-changing break away from home together every year.

Our aim is to make a long-term difference to the Family Holiday Association and its activities.

We hope our contribution can help the charity to grow and develop, and our staff secondment initiative with TUI UK & Ireland is just one way in which our two organisations have worked together to build a successful partnership.

The money you raise or donate goes to help disadvantaged children and their families have a simple break at the great British seaside. How we work A referring agent (who might be from Barnardo’s, NSPCC, a shelter for victims of domestic violence etc) can refer a family to us. They recognise that often, a break away from it all will make a big difference to the children, and their parents.

Family Holiday Association staff review that application, and as long as they meet our criteria, and as long as we have enough funds, we can allocate a break to the family.

The funds come from a whole range of places. We get no government support, so we

depend on the generosity of individuals and companies. The travel industry have always been staunch supporters of our work.

TUI Travel PLC in particular have been very generous.
