How Do I Earn a High School Diploma

Earn 230 credits Pass all required classes Show Computer Proficiency Pass the California High School Exits

EARN 230 CREDITS

To be in the 10th grade you must have 55 credits in the fall.

To be in the 11th grade you must have 110 credits in the fall.

To be 12th grade you must have 170 credits by July 1st.

WARNING!If you do not have the

necessary credits by the beginning of the school year, you will not be promoted to the next grade level until the beginning of the next year.

For Example: If you have less than

55 credits you will not move to the 10th grade, you will stay in the 9th grade until you meet the credit requirements

If you go to intersession, adult school or Saturday school with Beyond the Bell, after the school year begins you will be placed in the correct grade level the next school year.

To make up credits, you can

Attend: Adult School Beyond the Bell A-Friedman Occupational Center Any Community College

Classes are offered in the evening,Saturday, while you are on track &off track.

ADVANCED COURSE OFFERINGS

We encourage students to take Advanced Placement classes. We have a wide variety to chose from in English, Math, Science, and Social Science.

Many other university approved electives that are offered. Your counselor will help you make sure you not only complete your Graduation requirements but have the courses required for college.

PASS THE CAHSEE

The CAHSEE consist of two parts:MATH & ENGLISH

You must score a minimum of 350 on the Math and English portions of the test.

If either Math & English are passed, that section will not have to be taken again.

If either Math & English are not passed, there will be multiple chances to retake.

Both sections must be passed to receive a Diploma.

NOTE: The 1st time you will take the CAHSEE is the 2nd semester of 10th Grade, must have 55 credits to take CAHSEE.

How do I get ready for college?A-G requirements

IN 11TH GRADE YOU SHOULD:

Check with your Counselor to make sure you are on college track

Register & take the PSAT (Practice for the SAT I) Prepare & plan to take the SAT & ACT tests in your

Spring Semester Narrow your college selection down to about 10

choices & get specific information on the entrance requirements

Research scholarships & financial aid using the internet and/or the college center

Continue to track your progress Stay involved in school activities Work on improving your G.P.A. to “A”s & “B”s

WHAT IS A G.P.A.?

G.P.A.= Grade Point Average, the numeric value of your academic work used by colleges to determine eligibility.

1) Assign value to your grades: - A= 4 2) Add the value - B= 3 for all the classes. - C= 2 3) Divide by the - D= 1 total number of classes.

Honor Roll 3.0 to 4.0 G.P.A.

G.P.A. & TEST FOR COLLEGE

You must have a 2.5 G.P.A. for most colleges

Cal. State Colleges require a 2.5 G.P.A and

the SAT I or ACT UC Colleges require a 3.0 G.P.A. and the

SAT I& or the ACT & SAT II Private Colleges have varied entrance

requirements but usually required a 3.0 G.P.A.

WHAT DO I DO TO MAKE SURE I’M ON TRACK?

See your Counselor regularly Keep track of the classes you you passed & the classes you need on the Graduation Requirement Checklist Keep track of your credits Pass all your classes If you FAIL a class make it up right

away!
