HypothesisI think my Media consumptions will be different because me and my subject use different types and the ones we use the same they are used in different ways.

My mother will engage in media such as Facebook, radio and she reads the newspaper because of her age. My mother will use Facebook at night for about 1 hour or more when she is home from work and she uses this for chatting with friends and looking at what they have been up to as well as playing games. She listens to the radio at 7:30am till about 8:00am and about 5:30pm till about 6:40pm on her way to and from work to listen to music, as well as she will read the newspaper sometime in the afternoon in the weekends and at night during the weekdays.

I think I will engage more in social networking, YouTube, Television because of my age. I will use my social media in the afternoon more than in the morning I use Facebook three times a week for around 30mins for chatting to old friends from other schools and looking at recent news feeds I will do this when watching the news. I use YouTube everyday for about 1-2 hours listening to music and watching the occasional video with the pop up adds. I will watch the news 2-3 times a week from 6pm till 7pm and I will watch 20-30 minutes of the morning news to see what has been going on in the world.

• How much has the media changed since you were young?Since I was young the media has changed a lot as when I was young we didn’t have as much access to media as to what you have grown up with.

• Does your family effect you media use?Yes my family effects my media use as I live with three teenagers and they tend to hog the computer and television so they watch what they want to watch and for this reason they effect my media use.

• How has media influenced your life?Media has influenced my life in many ways as it allows me to keep up with what is happening in the world and with old friends.

• Why do you use Facebook more at night?I use Facebook more at night because I work in the morning so I only have time at night for social networking.

• When you hope in the car do you turn on the radio?Yes because when I drive to work it makes the ride less boring and easier to cope on long journeys.

Yes my media has increased over the last 5-10 years because when I was younger I used to be more active and less involved in the media.

• Does your family effect you media use?Yes my family does effect my media use because living with my brother and sister they tend to watch different things to me so when they are watching TV it will be something different to what I want to watch.

• How has media influenced your life?Media has influenced my life because it allows me to keep in touch with my friends and keep up with news in other countries and big events happening in New Zealand.

• Why do you use Facebook more at night?I use Facebook more at night because in the morning I will be getting ready for school so I will go on Facebook at night rather than the morning.

• Does school restrict your media use or increased it?School has increased it in a way because we are a BYOD school which we will use media more for different subjects that we take.

Facebook

People use the social networking site Facebook so they can keep in contact with friends, family. Facebook is one of the biggest social networking sites used by around 426 million uses a month and is still growing. People use Facebook in different ways as you can chat to friend upload videos and photos, play games and people will post what they have been up to. People use it to escape from the real world by creating their own life online.

ConclusionA similarity me and my subject share is that we both use social networking sites such as Facebook. We both use Facebook because we both use it to keep in touch with friends. This relates to Blulmer and Katz theory Personal relationships and Diversion because we use it to interact with friends and family online and to escape the real world. What I learnt from the media is that people will use it for different reasons such as just because my subject and I use Facebook for communicating with friends other people will uses it for other reasons. People use the media so they can have personal relationships with other people so if they don’t have many friends in real life they can gain many online so they gain friendships. This says that people will use the media to gain friends or keep in touch with them as well as to create their own world.

One other similarity we have is that we both watch TV and one program we both watch is the news. We both watch the news so we can keep up with the current events happing in New Zealand and in other countries. This links to Blulmer and Katz theory Surveillance because it gives use information on other countries and what the weather will be link for the next week. I learnt from the media that many different things are covered in the news and under different subjects too. People use the media to keep up with what is going on in the world with people and in the cities. This says about the way people use media that they use it all around the world to look at different events happening online or through the television.

A difference my subject and I have is that she would rather listen to the radio when I would rather go on YouTube. This is because she spends most time in the car with the radio on when I spend most time on the internet on YouTube. This links to Blulmer and Katz theory Diversion because you use this to escape life and burry yourself into something else. I learnt that the media can be covered in different ways and support different things even on sites like YouTube with the ads that come on. People use media so they can keep up to date with new things being released and with new products being brought into the world. This says that there are more ways of getting types of media weather it by the internet of through the radio and that media is all around us and it is difficult not to use it.

Another difference is that my subjects job restricts her media use when my job doesn’t because I don’t have a job. This is because my subject is 44 and I am 15 so she works full time and I don’t need to work yet. This links to Blulmer and Katz theory personal identity because a job says a lot about a person so this can define them. I learnt that for every job there are restriction but not it all cases just depends on your job. People use the media so they can gain access to other parts of life weather it restricts them or not they will still use media in everyday life because they want to fit in to the world evolving today. This says that our generation is a generation that has grown up around media so it is harder for us to not use it and even the older people find it hard not to use it.
