Credentials / Photography: Credentials for Colorado School of Mines home events will only be issued to working media outlets. If you wish to obtain credentials, please contact the CSM Sports Information Office at least one week prior to the contest. Please note that there is limited space at press row at Lockridge Arena, and that credentials are issued on a game-by-game and first-come, first-served basis. Any person wish-ing to take photos on the sidelines must obtain credentials from the SID office.

Interviews: All CSM coaches and players will be available for interviews following a 10-minute cool-down period, as per NCAA regulations. Please ask a member of the SID office to arrange for an interview. The CSM Department of Athletics does not hold weekly press conferences. All interviews with coaches and student-athletes must go through the SID office. Please give at least 24 hours notice for interview requests.

Visiting Radio: Visiting radio stations must contact the SID office at least one week prior to the contest to make the necessary arrangements.

Colorado School of Mines is a public research university devoted to engineering and applied science. Colorado School of Mines’ intercollegiate athletics program provides student-athletes with the opportunity to participate in 18 varsity sports. As one of 14 schools in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, CSM provides an excellent opportunity and environment for both the scholar and the athlete. The RMAC is an NCAA Division II affiliate consisting of 10 institutions in Colorado, and two each in Nebraska and New Mexico.

Men's sports offered at Colorado School of Mines include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, track & field and wrestling. Women's sports include basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, track & field and volley-ball.

The 2011-12 season will mark Pryor Orser’s 11th year as the head men’s basketball coach at Colorado School of Mines. During his first 10 seasons at CSM, Orser has compiled a 146-135 overall record (95-98 RMAC). Orser was selected as the RMAC Coach of the Year in 2010-11 after leading CSM to the RMAC regular-season cham-pionship and the #1 seed in the RMAC Shootout. Mines (25-6 overall, 18-4 RMAC) set new single-season program records for overall and conference victories and qualified for the NCAA Divi-sion II Central Region Tournament for the second year in a row. The Orediggers, who were ranked 20th in the final 2010-11 NABC Top 25 Poll, were ranked as high as #2 in the Central Region and #18 in the nation in 2010-11. Three Orediggers earned All-RMAC recognition, including Sean Armstrong, who went on to garner All-Region and All-American honors. In 2009-10, Orser was named RMAC East Division Coach of the Year after leading Mines to a 17-12 overall record (14-5 RMAC) and a share of the RMAC East Division title. The Orediggers made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and established a new single-season program record for conference victories. CSM earned the #1 seed in the East Division for the RMAC Shootout and hosted a Quarterfinal game at Lockridge Arena. Dale Minschwaner earned First Team All-RMAC, RMAC East Division Player of the Year and First Team All-East Division honors while Brett Green garnered RMAC East Division Freshman of the Year accolades. Green’s selection as the RMAC East Division Freshman of the Year marked the sixth time that an Oredigger has earned such recognition during Orser’s tenure (Stephen Bahl, 2001-02; Kevin Wagstaff, 2002-03; Ben Mohr, 2004-05; Kyle Pape, 2005-06; Minschwaner, 2008-09). Mines posted a 14-13 overall record (9-10 RMAC) in 2008-09. Two Orediggers were named All-RMAC, including Pape (Second Team All-East Division) and Minschwaner (Third Team All-East Division). Minschwaner was also selected as the 2008-09 RMAC East Division Freshman of the Year. In 2007-08, the Orediggers compiled a 15-14 overall record (8-11 RMAC). Three Orediggers earned All-RMAC recognition, including Pape, who was a unanimous First Team All-RMAC East Division selection. Mines compiled a 14-13 overall record (8-11 RMAC) in 2006-07 as three Orediggers (Pape, Ian Elseth and Franklin Ryk) earned recognition on the All-RMAC teams. In 2005-06, Orser led the Orediggers to a 15-14 overall record (9-10 RMAC). CSM earned the #7 seed in the RMAC Shootout and knocked off #2 seed Fort Lewis. The victory marked CSM’s first post-season win since 1996. Two players earned All-RMAC recognition for CSM, and Pape was named RMAC Freshman of the Year. Orser led CSM to a 16-12 overall mark (10-9 RMAC) in 2004-05 and an appearance in the RMAC Shootout. During the 2004-05 campaign, CSM registered a 74-71 upset victory over then top-ranked Metro State at Volk Gymna-sium. Bahl, who was selected as the North Central Region Player of the Year, garnered First Team All-RMAC, First Team All-North Central Region and Third Team All-American honors. It was the first time in program history that a CSM player had been named All-American. In the spring of 2005, Westword Newspaper named Pryor Orser’s Baskeball Camps as the Best Place for Young Hoops Hotshots in its annual Best of Denver issue. Orser’s camps have grown each year and have attracted as many as 140 players during a single week. Orser’s 2002-03 team posted an 18-10 overall record (12-7 RMAC) and advanced to the RMAC Shootout for the first time since 1999. The 2002-03 squad established numerous team records, including a 15-2 start, a perfect 7-0 record against the RMAC West Division, a #4 ranking in the North Central Region and an 11-game winning streak. The 2002-03 Orediggers also achieved a #26 national ranking. Four players went on to earn All-RMAC recognition. In his first year at the helm (2001-02), Orser, who arrived on campus just two months prior to the start of the season, led the Orediggers to a 5-21 overall record (3-16 RMAC).

Prior to his arrival at Mines, Schick spent three seasons (2004-05 to 2006-07) as an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Nebraska - Omaha. Schick also spent four seasons (2000-01 to 2003-04) as the associate head men’s basketball coach at Fort Lewis College. During his time in Durango, Schick helped guide the Skyhawks to two RMAC West Division titles and one RMAC championship. FLC also advanced into a pair of NCAA Division II tournaments. A former collegiate standout at the University of Northern Colorado (1995-96 to 1997-98) and Western State College (1998-99), Schick earned First Team All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and All-Region honors during his final year of eligibility with the Mountaineers. As a senior at Western State, Schick finished third in the RMAC in scoring with 18.8 points per game. Schick also finished fourth in the conference in free throw % (.814), sixth in three-point field goals made (3.38 per game) and 12th in three-point field goal % (.404). Schick’s career collegiate statistics include a .435 field goal % (344-of-791), a .409 three-point field goal % (219-of-536), an .805 free throw % (165-of-205) and 1,072 points in 99 games (10.8 ppg). Schick also amassed a combined 288 total rebounds (2.9 rpg), 172 assists and 77 steals at UNC and WSC. Schick, who garnered Academic All-Region recognition at UNC in 1996-97, also earned an NCAA Division II Post-Graduate Scholarship. A three-sport star in basketball, football and baseball as a prep, Schick graduated from Gunnison High School in 1995. Schick set numerous school records in basketball, including career marks for points (1,870), rebounds (635), assists (240) and scoring average (25.3 ppg). Schick, who led the state in scoring as a senior, ranks sixth in Colorado prep history in career scoring. During his senior season at GHS, Schick established single-season school records for points scored (812) and points per game (35.3). Schick’s 59 points against Buena Vista in 1994-95 is the fourth-highest single-game total in state his-tory. The recipient of the Rocky Mountain News’ Fred Steinmark Award for academic and athletic excellence in 1994-95, Schick was a consensus Colorado 3A All-State selection as a senior at Gunnison. Schick, who was named All-State six times and All-Conference seven times as a prep, was chosen as Sports Illustrated’s Old Spice Athlete of the Month and was nomi-nated for the McDonald’s All-American team. Schick, who carried a 3.94 GPA throughout his college career, graduated from Northern Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology in 2000. Schick went on to earn his master’s degree in Recreation Administration from UNO in 2007.

Chris Staton begins his first season as a volunteer assis-tant coach for the CSM men’s basketball program in 2011-12. Staten has spent the last six years as the athletic director, head boys basketball coach and head boys soccer coach at Beth Eden Baptist School in Wheat Ridge, Colo. Staten played one year of soccer at his alma mater, Clear-water Christian College in Clearwater, Fla. He was a four-sport athlete as a prep at Citrus Park Christian School, including four years of basketball and soccer. He took home team most valuable players honors in soccer and honorable mention all-conference honors in basketball as well as the team’s Leadership Award. A 2005 graduate of Clearwater Christian College with a degree in physical education, Staton is currently pursuing his mas-ter’s degree in coaching form the United State Sports Academy and is on track to graduate in May of 2012. He and his wife, Rebecca, currently reside in Arvada and welcomed their first child, Carolina, on July 26, 2011.

Mark Ruybal returns for his second season as an assistant basketball coach for the CSM men’s basketball team in 2011-12. Prior to his arrival at Mines, Ruybal was the boy’s varsity basketball coach at Summit High School (Frisco, Colo.) in 2008-09. Ruybal’s resume also includes head coaching positions at South High School (Bakersfield, Calif.; 2006-07), Taft High School (Taft, Calif.; 2004-05), Greyhills Academy High School (Tuba City, Ariz.; 1993-96, 2000-03) and Gallup High School (Gallup, N.M.; 1997). Ruybal, who served as the Athletic Director for the Fightin’ Knights during his most recent stint at Greyhills Academy, has won several conference titles and earned Coach of the Year honors on multiple occasions during his career in the prep ranks. Ruybal’s collegiate coaching experience includes positions at Colorado State University (1988-91; volunteer assistant), Grand Canyon University (1998; assistant coach) and Mesa Community College (1999; assistant coach). Following his graduation from Gateway High School in Aurora, Ruybal played basketball at Adams State College in 1978-79. During his prep career, Ruybal earned all-conference recognition in hoops and football. Ruybal also com-peted on the track & field and golf teams at GHS. Ruybal earned his bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science (Education) from Colorado State University in 1993. Ruybal and his wife, Dawn, reside in Denver and have three sons, Mark II, Jude and Elijah.
