J ust as in London four years ago, the 10m Air Women event will pres- ent the first Gold medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, following a long last- ing tradition which was also upheld in Lon- don, where the People’s Republic of China’s YI SILING (27) received the first Gold medal of the Games. Despite not having officially announced their Olympic selection yet, the Chinese na- tional team will probably be headlined by Yi herself, current number 3 in the World Rank- ing in this event and holder of the Finals World Record with 211.0 points. The Chinese athlete has 5 World Cup Gold medals and 2 World Cup Final trophies she has earned in the current Olympic cycle, having accrued them throughout 15 starts, and entering the final phase 13 times. Two of those final participations occurred during the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series: in Bangkok (THA), where she finished at the top the podium, and in Rio de Janeiro (BRA), where she placed 6th. A tangible threat to Yi’s ambitions will come in the shape of Serbia’s ANDREA ARSOVIC (27), current World Ranking leader and winner of the World Cup Gold in the 10m Air Rifle Women event in Munich (GER) last June. Arsovic is going to lead a group of contenders which will probably include Yi’s teammate SHI MENGYAO (18), who made her international debut this year, Austria’s rising star OLIVIA HOFMANN (23), ranked 7th in the world, and Iran’s NAJMEH KHEDMATI, (20), who obtained the Olympic quota place at last year’s World Cup stage in Gabala (AZE). 10M AIR RIFLE WOMEN SATURDAY, AUG 06 2016 AT 10:30 FINALS NAME (NOC) WORLD RANK OLYMPIC GAMES WCH-WC-WCF 2013 – 2016 MEDALS BEST RESULTS AUG 1 2016 Participation Starts Finals Wins Total Qualification Finals YI Siling (CHN) 3 1 15 13 7 8 422,5 211,0 WU Liuxi (CHN) 104 2 8 7 2 6 421,0 210,0 ARSOVIC Andrea (SRB) 1 1 18 12 2 5 419,9 208,5 AHMADI Elaheh (IRI) 28 1 8 3 2 2 419,3 207,8 CHANG Jing (CHN) 5 4 1 3 419,1 209,1 PEJCIC Snjezana (CRO) 16 2 15 5 1 2 420,8 209,1 ZUBLASING Petra (ITA) 20 1 12 4 1 2 418,8 207,1 UNGERANK Lisa (AUT) 195 8 3 1 2 418,3 208,5 DU Bei (CHN) 5 3 3 1 2 417,5 208,6 DU Li (CHN) 6 3 4 1 1 1 418,6 208,3 VELOSO Martina Lindsay (SIN) 27 10 1 1 1 416,9 208,7 ANDUSIC MAKSIMOVIC Ivana (SRB) 13 1 18 9 4 419,9 209,2 ZHANG Binbin (CHN) 15 12 8 2 421,0 207,4 SHI Mengyao (CHN) 2 2 2 2 418,7 208,3 CHANDELA Apurvi (IND) 30 16 2 2 418,4 206,9 CHEN Dongqi (CHN) 19 5 3 1 422,9 184,3 PAUL Ayonika (IND) 25 14 4 1 420,8 205,9 HOFMANN Olivia (AUT) 7 11 3 1 420,5 205,4 VDOVINA Daria (RUS) 10 1 4 3 1 420,1 208,0 KHEDMATI Najmeh (IRI) 18 6 3 1 419,6 207,9 PFEILSCHIFTER Sonja (GER) 50 5 6 5 1 419,6 185,9 GSCHWANDTNER Selina (GER) 9 6 1 1 419,4 206,8 ZUMAYA FLORES Goretti A. A ccording to the added results of the last four years, The Republic of Korea’s JIN JONGOH (36) would be
the uncontested favorite of the 10m Air Pis-tol Men event, as he obtained 6 Gold medals out of 10 finals participations in World Cups, World Cup Finals and World Championships. At the moment, however, Jin doesn’t stand at the top of the World Ranking in this event, as the 1st place belongs to Brazil’s FELIPE ALMEIDA WU (24), who earned two 1st places during the 2016 World Cup Series: in Bangkok (THA) and in Baku (AZE). Not to mention that he will fight for the Olympic Gold on his home turf, with the support of a whole country behind him. Still, Jin Jongoh is the reigning Olympic and World Champion in this event, and he also holds both the World Record as well as
the Finals World Record. A résumé that plac-es him head-to-head with Wu on the road to the Olympic champion title. Two-time Olympian OLEH OMELCHUK (33) of Ukraine is also on the shortlist for the 10m Air Pistol Men title in Rio, alongside Spain’s PABLO CARRERA (29) with 2 victories in this event in the current Olympic cycle, and Vietnam’s HOANG XUAN VINH (41), whose stats follow a similar path as the triumphs in Carrera’s career: 12 starts, 6 final matches, 4 podiums and 2 Gold medals.

T he 10m Air Pistol Women competi-tion is among the most uncertain events of the Olympic Shooting pro-
gram for Rio 2016, and its perfectly suited for an unexpected finale. Serbian athlete ZORANA ARUNOVIC (29), in fact, has been the most successful shooter in this event during the Olympic cycle with 3 Gold medals and 9 finals participations, but she currently sits in 20th position of the World Ranking as she missed the Air Pistol finals at each of her three World Cup partici-pations, placing 10th or below. Bulgaria’s ANTOANETA BONEVA (30) also earned 3 Gold medals during the last four years, winning, in addition, the Silver at the Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) and obtaining a total of 5 medals in the cur-rent Olympic cycle. However, she only ranks
9th in the world at the moment, since her last Gold medal dates back to May 2015 in Munich (GER). On the other hand, the Ukraine’s OLENA KOSTEVYCH (31) is surely going through a great period, as she obtained 2 of the last 3 World Cup Gold medals in dispute, also jump-ing the the top of World Ranking – a spot where she can keep an eye-liner curent Air Pistol Olympic Champion, People’s Republic of China’s GUO WENJUN, 32, who started 14 times in this event during the last four years, entering the finals 10 times and winning 2 Golds.

F our years after shaking the Shooting Sport world, Italy’s reigning Olym-pic Champion JESSICA ROSSI (24)
doesn’t seems to be among the top favorites for the Trap Women Gold medal in Rio. This burden, in fact, seems more likely to be on RAY BASSIL’s shoulders, since the Leba-nese is currently sitting at the top of the World Ranking after placing three-times on the podi-um during this year’s ISSF World Cup Series. Bassil (27), whose first career Gold medal arrived in Nicosia (CYP) last March, is surely going to face a group of resolute shooters in Rio, where Rossi won’t give her title up so easily, and where Finland’s SATU MAKELA-NUMMELA (45) will try to reach for another prize-winning performance after the 20 starts she’s accumulated since 2013, with 6 semifi-nals participations and 3 Gold medals.
An attempt to earn the Olympic Gold medal will also be the goal of the reigning ISSF World Champion, Spain’s FATIMA GALVEZ (29) ranked 6th in the world, and of San Marino’s ALESSANDRA PERILLI (28) winner of the World Cup Final trophy in 2015 and three-times Trap Women medalist during the last four years.

D espite not having officially declared what athlete will compete in which event at the 2016 Olympic Games,
in the 10m Air Rifle Men event, the People’s Republic of China will surely be represented by YANG HAORAN (20), 2014 Youth Olympic Champion in this very event. In 14 participations between World Cups, World Cup Finals and the 2014 World Cham-pionship in Granada (ESP), Yang always en-tered the final phase of the event, collect-ing the impressive amount of 7 Gold medals throughout 10 total podiums. Actually, during the current season, Yang only earned the Gold at the first World Cup stage in Bangkok (THA), placing 5th in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) and 7th in Munich (GER), however, these facts are not enough to not exclude him the from the list of possible Gold
winners in the 10m Air Rifle Men event at the Olympics. Another strong candidate for the podium is Hungarian veteran shooter PETER SIDI (37), who matched Yang’s 14 finals participation in the last four years, obtaining 6 total medals. Alongside him, Yang’s probable team-mate in Rio will be CAO YIFEI (28), current leader of the World Ranking and three-time Silver medalist during the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series.

A t the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Trap Men event delivered its Gold medal at the end of a thrilling
shoot-off between Italy’s MASSIMO FABBRIZI (38) and Croatia’s GIOVANNI CERNOGORAZ (33), who eventually ended up on the highest step of the podium and will defend his title in Rio. On August 8th, it is logical to expect nothing less, as many shooters are eligible for the Olympic Gold medal according to the latest results. Slovakia’s Reigning ISSF World Champi-on, ERIK VARGA (40), accumulated 13 starts in this event since 2013, reaching the semifi-nals 8 times and winning 4 Golds among 6 total medals. Furthermore, 2 of those Golds arrived back-to-back, at the ISSF World Cham-pionship in 2014, then the 2015 in Granada
(ESP) and finally in Lonato (ITA).During the 2016 ISSF World Cup Series, however, Spain’s ALBERTO FERNANDEZ (33) strongly entered in the debate for the Olympic title, obtaining consecutive Gold medals in Nicosia (CYP) and Rio de Janeiro (BRA) and rocketing to the top of the ranking. Despite the lack of podiums during this year’s World Cup, both Italy’s GIOVANNI PELLIELO (46) and Czech Republic’s DAVID KOSTELECKY (41) will be among the dark horses of the Trap Men event, mostly thanks to their experience. Rio 2016, in fact, will mark Pellielo’s 7th and Kostelecky’s 5th Olympic participation.

Despite not having yet received the of-ficial phone call from her National Team, Zhang should feel pretty confident about it, as she finished in 1st place twice during this year’s World Cup, which automatically will place her as number 1 in the World Ranking while entering the Olympic Shooting Range this year. Rio 2016 will mark the Olympic debut for Zhang, while a far more experienced athlete will try to give her a hard time: Mongolia’s GUNDEGMAA OTRYAD (38) will participate in
her 6th edition of the Olympic Games, trying to best the Silver medal she pocketed in 2008 in Beijing (CHN). Otryad will land in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) as the number 9 in the World Ranking, bring-ing with her the 3 Gold medals she secured in the 25m Pistol Women event since 2013. Current Olympic Champion KIM JANGMI (23) from the Republic of Korea, and the Ukraine’s OLENA KOSTEVYCH (31), London 2012 Bronze medalist in this event, will also be among the contenders for the Gold medal.

T he 50m Pistol Men event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is expected to be a pretty balanced clash between
a consistent number of shooters. W ith none of the three 2012 Olym-pic medalists attending Rio 2016, the 50m Rifle Prone Men event

Current World Record holder, Germany’s HENRI JUNGHAENEL (28), is undoubtedly part of this group after competing in 15 final stages out of 18 starts in the last four years and obtaining 4 Golds, 1 Silver and 3 Bronzes. During this year’s Olympic test event in Rio de Janeiro (BRA), Junghaenel preceded another viable candidate for a podium posi-tion: WARREN POTENT (54). In this event, indeed, the Australian shooter from Currans

T here are two flags that have literally waved over every Skeet Women po-dium since 2013: the Italian and the
American one, and it is safe to assume that they will also wave on August 12th, when this event’s Olympic Gold medal will be de-livered in Rio de Janeiro (BRA). Both national teams will travel to Brazil with their champions in tow, such as the USA’s KIMBERLY RHODE (37), who will team-up with 2015 ISSF World Champion MORGAN CRAFT (23), while Italy will be represented by DIANA BACOSI (35) and by 2008 Olympic Gold medalist CHIARA CAINERO (38). In both teams, a far more experienced shooter will join a total debutant, as Rhode and Cainero will respectively be attending their 6th and 4th Olympics, while Craft and Bacosi will make their first appearances at the Olympics.
Among these four excellent shooters, Rhode is whom probably deserves to have the high-er odds, as she has won more Gold medals than any other athlete in the Olympic cycle, also having to defend the Skeet Women Olympic title she obtained four years ago. However, despite the undeniable supe-riority of the two national teams, it is Thai-land’s SUTIYA JIEWCHALOEMMIT (30), who currently leads the World Ranking, and has obtained the World Cup Gold medal twice in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) and in San Marino (SMR). where Zhang placed 2nd. Another contender for the Olympic title is Russia’’s ALEXEI KLIMOV (40), who equaled the Finals World Record during the test event in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) and is currently ranked 6th in the world.

H ow can you dethrone a two-time Olympic Gold medalist? That’s prob-ably what VINCENT HANCOCK’s
rivals have asked themselves multiple times lately, since the USA’s three-times World Champion is, without a doubt, the man to beat in the Skeet Men event. Despite not reaching the top of the po-dium during this year’s ISSF World Cup, Han-cock (27) is still quite confident, thanks to the 6 podiums he climbed out of 9 semifinal par-ticipations throughout the last 4 years. The Port Charlotte native, who dropped from 1st to 2nd place in the World Ranking, is going to face the same opponents he often meets at the World Cup shooting ranges:
Denmark’s JESPER HANSEN (35), 10 semi-finals out of 18 starts since 2013, or Italy’s young GABRIELE ROSSETTI (21) who de-feated Hancock at last year’s ISSF World Cup Final in Nicosia (CYP). Furthermore, during this year’s com-petitions two Swedish Skeet shooters, MARCUS SVENSSON (26) and STEFAN NILSSON (25), landed in the top positions of the World Ranking thanks to the World Cup Gold medals they respectively obtained in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) and San Marino (SMR).

T he 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men event in Rio de Janeiro (BRA) is going to feature the one undisputed favorite
of the United States, Matthew Emmons (35), current leader of the World Ranking and Gold medalist of two of this year’s World Cup stag-es in Bangkok (THA) and Munich (GER). Emmons, who placed 3rd in this event at the 2012 Olympic Games, will achieve his third Olympic participation after represent-ing the USA at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Oddly enough, Emmons won an Olympic medal in both of those previous competitions, a Gold in Athens (GRE) and a Silver in Beijing (CHN), but the two of them arrived through a different event: the 50m Rifle Prone Men. Reigning Olympic Champion NICCOLÒ CAMPRIANI (28) of Italy will also participate in this event in Rio, empowered by the 3 Gold
medals he obtained at his 3 finals participa-tions throughout the last four years. Last but not least, during the Olympic cycle, numerous Chinese athletes have distin-guished themselves in this event, but it is safe to assume that HUI ZICHENG (27) and ZHU QINAN (31), currently ranked 3rd and 5th in the world, will represent the People’s Republic of China in the 3 Positions event in Rio.
