The First Vientiane Career Fair started as a Class project in the Business Degree Program at the Lao-American College in the Spring of 2011 with 50 students and 2 staff members. The objective was to organize a job-fair to bridge the communication gap between students & companies; for students to express ambitions and for companies to explain career paths and opportunities. They organized the 1st Vientiane Career Fair at the Vientiane Plaza Hotel on July 2nd & 3rd 2011. It was a great success with 25 companies representing a cross section of the Lao private sector, ranging from mining to banks, cars to computers, hydropower to beer, pizzas and ice cream, and attracting about 2000 visitors. Companies were delighted to use this event also as a business exhibition. It was initially planned as a 1 day event but soon expanded to a 2 day “show” with Range Rovers and Fords on display and sales of mobile phones and other services and products.
The 2nd Annual Vientiane Career Fair, (open from 10am to 7pm on Saturday June 30th, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday July 1st) will have more companies, some NGO’s and Schools offering Masters degrees and Scholarships. There will be workshops on CV preparation, English pronunciation, interviewing techniques, etc where anyone can participate for FREE. In future years the Career Fair will be expanded to include career opportunities in Government departments. The Lucky Draw was a great success last year and Sponsors are again being asked to contribute prize for example Polo shirts, T shirts, bags, umbrellas and any special items of more value such as I-Pads, I-Pods, Tabs, USB’s, especially appreciated by students.
The role of the Lao-American College organizing team is to plan the Vientiane Career Fair on behalf of all the students in Laos, from every college and university, it is a Career Fair for everyone, and we encourage representatives from many other establishments to join the organizing group for planning future Career Fairs and events.
