Spring & Summer Classes 2018We've got lots of great new classes and activities for Spring & Summer 2018! You'll find a line-up of classes you'll love - from our perennial favourite Beginner Sewing class, to some brand new, exciting project classes like the "Harper Handbag" classes or the "Jelly Roll Rug" classes. Software Classes Premier Plus Software StudioThe Premier Software system brings you to a new level of creativity in embroidery. This software works with all brands of embroidery machines and allows you to edit embroideries completely and see them on your projects. Bring your laptop with software loaded and learn just what you can do with it. $25 per 2 hour session ($15 if software was purchased from A Great Notion). Sewing ClassesLearn Your Machine

Join us in this class created for our beginner sewers! You will learn how your machine works, how to thread it, wind a bobbin, and choose the correct stitch for your project. You will also learn how to take care of your machine and how to clean and oil it, which will save you time and money! Sewing classes do not have time allotted for learning your machine but this class will get you ready for any class you choose. This class is a pre-requisite for Beginner Sewing. One 3-hour class, $30.00 including kit. Beginner SewingExperience how much fun it is to create garments and other projects when you discover the art of sewing! Whether you are new to sewing or wish to update your skills, this class will help you become a confident sewer while you learn basic sewing

techniques. You’ll learn how to select and sew the best seams and seam finishes for different weights and types of fabric, how to sew with knits, insert a zipper, sew with a twin needle to create a double stitched hem, how to mark and sew darts, and how to read commercial patterns. You will learn about various threads, needles, stitches, presser feet, and more. Practice your skills by first sewing a decorative pillow with darts, a zipper, and a flat felled seam. Your second project, yoga pants, will give you an opportunity to learn how to fit a pattern as well as sew knit fabrics. Due to the popularity of this class we encourage you not to delay signing up. Learn Your Machine is a pre-requisite for this class. Four 3-hour classes, $108.00 plus $10.00 for workbook; pattern and sewing supplies not included. Beginner Sewing …the next step

Have you completed the Beginner Sewing class and you just want to keep on sewing? The project is a simple casual jacket to match the yoga pants made in the first class. Sewing ClubSewing Club is designed for people who are new to their machines and who would like to learn to get the most out of it. This is a one year (9 month) program. Throughout the year we will cover a variety of topics that will teach the most important techniques and features of your machine. Sewing Club is FREE for one year with machine purchase; $250 if your machine was not purchased from A Great Notion if space is available. Pre-registration is required. Please bring a 2” binder with you to your first class as we will be completing a workbook, giving you a reference manual to use as you carry on later with your machine. Quilting ClassesStep 1: Rotary Cutting

This class is for all who are unfamiliar with the use of many of the tools now being used in quilting. Rotary cutters, in particular, can often seem intimidating but are essential. Learning how to use and care for your cutter will take the fear away. This class will also cover the use and care of cutting mats and the ins and outs of picking the correct ruler for your projects. Step 2: Beginner QuiltingStep into the wonderful world of quilting! Whether your goal is to make a simple lap quilt or a large quilt for your bed, the skills needed are the same. You’ll be guided through every step, from picking your fabric to finishing your quilt top. Starting with the basics, you will learn why the perfect ¼” seam is so important and why “pressing” and “ironing” are not the same things. With the techniques you learn and the

confidence you gain, you will soon be calling yourself a quilter and be busy planning your next project. Layering, quilting, and binding techniques will also be discussed in this class; however, the focus of this class is the completion of your quilt top. Rotary Cutting is a pre-requisite. Step 3: Quilting with Your Walking FootA perfect class for beginners or those who are not comfortable or ready for free-motion. Stitch-in-the-ditch is not your only option! Step 4: Perfectly BoundIt’s the finishing touches that make all the difference! Take your quilts from so-so to fabulous when you learn how easy perfect bindings are. You’ll learn to apply bindings to both straight and curved quilt edges, how to turn corners cleanly, and join the binding ends invisibly. If time allows we will also take a look at binding quilts that are not square (eg. Hexagons) and turning inside corners. Suitable for all skill levels. Two 3-hour classes; $54, supplies additional.
