PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
At Made by Momma our mission is to offer practical, hands-on, peer-to-peer support to mothers with young children facing situations of crisis and adversity. Why? Because sometimes moms are the ones
that need to be taken care of. Unexpected illness, injury, post-partum depression, a death in the family – these situations can be overwhelming and hard to manage alone. Our vision is for nurturers to feel nurtured through short-term assistance in times of transition and adversity.2016 was another truly inspiring year
for our organization. Our team grew stronger, our supporters believed in our
mission, and together we worked hard to help fill the many needs of families in our community. 2016 was our busiest year yet. Our
main focus, was simply keeping up with the demand for our services. And in spite of the difficult economic times we are still facing, we were able to successfully launch our NICU Family Meals program at two hospitals and seamlessly take The Happy Birthday Project on under our wing. These are two programs that I am very proud of and that I passionately put my heart into. Made by Momma’s success in 2016
could not have happened without the incredible contributions of many people. I’ve always believed that “It takes a Village” to raise a family and this is true for running our charity too. I sincerely thank our donors, supporters,
volunteers, committee chairs and our Board of Directors for their commitment this year. It’s hard to believe we are now in our
8th year of operations. We are helping more families than ever before and this is why fundraising needs to remain a top priority. From 3394 people helped in 2015 to 5,213 people in 2016 - We know that 2017 will be another year of growth and change as we work hard to raise the capital needed to increase the space at the Resource Centre so we can continue meeting the needs of families in need. Every hour of time volunteered, every
dollar donated, every opportunity that we are given - MAKES A DIFFERENCE!Thanks to every single one of you who
helped make it all possible.
Allyson Palaschuk, President
NICU FAMILY MEALSFamilies in the NICU try to direct all of their energy and love to caring for their often premature and critically ill newborn child. Unfortunately, for many new parents, this is often detrimental to their own health and
wellbeing. Enter Made by Momma volunteer
heros!
Every month, with the help of local service groups like
the Stampede City Kinettes and
the Kinette Club of Calgary, we fill our NICU
family meals' freezers on the PLC & SHC NICU Units with wholesome meals and snacks for parents and caregivers to recharge and refuel so they can get back to caring for their little one and starting their new journey as a family.
Cherishing the opportunity to provide a little magic and love to children, Made by Momma happily took over The Happy Birthday Project in 2016.
Every month, children living in local shelters or in situations where they may not be able to celebrate their birthday, are referred to us. We assemble birthday packages brimming with party supplies, gifts, cake and other supplies to make sure each child gets the celebration they deserve.
We thank all donors -- particularly Stepping Forward - Network of Friends -- who generously helped to make the HBP flourish and bring smiles and cheer to local children.

“I was honoured to be at a cook last night at your facility. All I have to say is Wow! Your mission, and your heart oozes gracefully out of every area of your beautiful space. Yes it's small, but it's huge in what it does. And to cook last night for your Mum's and families was amazing.” – Group Cook Volunteer

In 2016 our volunteers prepared 7,539 containers of meals, 2,759 baked treats adding up to 41,549 servings! Add in COBS fresh bread & buns and our non-perishable hamper food and that number reaches 83,396 servings just in 2016! That's 228 healthy food servings delivered to families in need every single day last year!
In addition to our meals program, we provided families in need other essential items like baby care, personal hygiene, clothing and household items. In 2016 that totaled 34,294 items, plus 70,320 baby diapers and 81,223 baby wipes… for a whopping total of 185,847 essential (non-food) items delivered to local families!
Thank you for helping us make an impact and achieve this success!

“This is an amazing organization. You helped me so much after I had a traumatic delivery and newborn
twins to care for!”
– Made by Momma Program Recipient
“Really appreciated having meals available in the unit. It gave me
more time to focus on my son which was priceless. I knew if I had a really busy day I could count on
having a Made by Momma meal. So thankful for this amazing charity. I will be excited to give back to this
organization as I think it is very important.”
– NICU Family Meals Recipient
“These women helped my family when I was at risk of having PPD again and put on bedrest and unable to prep for baby number two's inevitable c section. The support, food and mother’s day gifts
filled my heart and soul. I will be forever grateful!!”

SAIT participated in two group cooking events with Made by Momma as part of the 100 Projects Project, in celebration of our 100th birthday. The cooking events brought together SAIT employees and alumni to do something for families in need, and one volunteer was so captivated by the organization, she even joined the Board. At our roots, Made by Momma is about filling tummies with healthy savoury meals and tasty treats. While we may not be masterchefs, our volunteer cooks prepare recipes with tlc like they would for their own family. Families,
friends, girls' night out, or corporate groups come to our resource centre and prepare hundreds of meals or attend one of our monthly ATCO Blue Flame Kitchen cooking experiences. All meals and baking stock our freezers and get delivered to clients in need.

It takes a village. Whether it's volunteers dropping in to provide baby snuggles and in-home support to moms needing time to relax or hosting share tables for students from Louise Dean School for Pregnant and Parenting Teens to receive gently used baby essentials, MBM is that village helping families overcome life's challenges.
