Nine with SketchSlightly Askew Theatre Ensemble (SATE) will present Nine by Jane Shepard,
August 21 thru August 31 at The Chapel.
Nine by Jane Shepard is a short, powerful play about two women held in a life-threatening situation and the mind games they play to keep one another alive. Held in a room and chained apart, their only currency is words, and bal-ance of power is everything when a single word becomes the hanging point between life and death. The play explores the power of human relationships to overcome the most inhumane circumstances.
Nine appeared in a collection of four short plays for women titled KickAss Plays For Women published by Jane Shepard an award-winning playwright and actress. The play was later turned into a film, produced and directed by the author. She is perhaps best known for writing the Showtime original movie Freak City.
SATE is proud to partner with Leverage Dance Theater for its production of Nine. Leverage Dance Theater will present a dance piece called Sketch which will open each evening’s performance. Sketch: Physical Theater meets Dance, a new piece by Hannah Fischer of Leverage Dance Theater, explores fragmen-tation and time-lapse through a series of duets.
Slightly Askew Theatre Ensemble (SATE) is an ensemble-based theatre com-pany comprised of artists from varying disciplines devoted to the telling of stories through an exploration of words, movement, and sound. The Ensemble has trained in venues across St. Louis, including, The Koken Art Factory and Tower Grove Abbey. STATE established a residency in 2008 at The Chapel, a music, theatre, and fine arts venue located at 6238 Alexander Drive in Clayton. The Chapel is a not-for-profit music venue, performance space and art gallery. Through generous supporters, The Chapel provides all services free of charge to artists and musicians.
