ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD:

WICKER PARKLocated just south of Bucktown and northwest of the Loop, Wicker Park is a thriving community that has grown increasingly popular with urbanites who enjoy the energy and diversity of the North Side neighborhood.

The community was named after Charles and Joel Wicker, who bought 80 acres of land in the area in 1870. An influx of residential and commercial development came to the area after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, when affluent Germans and Scandinavians flocked to the neighborhood and built large mansions on Pierce and Hoyne Streets. Today, Wicker Park is considered one of the hippest neighborhoods in Chicago, home to diverse mix of artists, musicians, young professionals and families.

Wicker Park real estate features a variety of housing styles and price ranges. Condos take the form of vintage walk-ups, rustic lofts and new-construction three-flats and mid-rises. Single-family homes range from smaller cottages and bungalows to gut-rehabbed greystones and multi-million-dollar new construction. The Wicker Park District features a number of historic 19th century mansions that also fetch top dollar.

Public schools near Wicker Park include A.N. Pritzker Elementary School and Jonathan Burr Elementary School. Wicker Park residents enjoy the community’s incredibly convenient location - The CTA Blue Line takes residents into the Loop in less than 10 minutes and out to O’Hare Airport in a half-hour. The community is also right off the Kennedy Expressway for easy access to the Loop and the suburbs.

Wicker Park is known for its eclectic assortment of hip cafes, independent bookstores, dive bars, expensive boutiques, hole-in-the-wall art galleries, yoga studios and peaceful city parks. Many of Chicago’s most popular restaurants are also located in the neighborhood, including Big Star, Birchwood Kitchen and local favorite, Piece.
