10 SIGNS CHRISTMAS IS COMING
By Emma Newman
1. THE COLD WEATHER
Winter is definitely coming. The last leaves are falling off the
trees and it is officially freezing. Cannot leave the house without preparing yourself for a blizzard
and when it finally comes the whole nation comes to a standstill
and we go out and build igloos (even at the age of 22).
2. CHRISTMAS JUMPERS
Love them or hate them? No matter what there always going to be there.
I personally find the tackier the better. I mean flashing lights and the most hideous patterns are the best.
But, Steve from County Durham said: ‘In the right situation they can be fun.. [But] I wouldn't choose to
wear one’Primark have a lovely selection in
this winter starting at £8.
3. THE LIGHTSThere is something special about Christmas lights. The tradition
started in the early 20th Century and now homes and shops around
the globe adorn their windows and streets with the twinkly
lights. Whether they're tacky and over the top or simple and
elegant there is an awe about them and children love them.
4. CHRISTMAS SONGS
The same Christmas songs that have been played since the
civilisation of Britain are still being played but you can’t get
sick of them. From The Pogues to The Wombles. Whatever it is
you're secretly loving it whenever you hear it playing. Stephen from Consett said: ‘They really put you
in the Christmas mood’.
5. CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
The dreaded Christmas shopping. You go out unaware of the chaos that lurks at the shopping centre.
The shops are so busy all you want to do is crawl into a ball on the
floor and stay there till Christmas is well and truly over. All you
wanted was a Christmas card too. Louise from Consett said: ‘Get it
done early!’
6. CUPBOARD STOCKUP
Why is it when it comes to winter and Christmas the
parents stock up the house with everything from toilet rolls to tinned peas in the
event that we get snowed in? Not complaining though who
doesn’t want a lifetimes supply of chocolate lying around.
7.ADVENT CALENDARS
Yes I bought myself an advent calendar this year, and yes I ate all the chocolate by the
3rd of December. Am I ashamed? No. It’s a fact that most of the UK population do this and just buy another one
secretly.
8. DOGS IN COSTUMES
Dogs in costumes is a viral sensation and maybe this is just in my house
but I highly doubt it. It’s becoming a tradition to dress my dog up in
various Christmas related costumes. Last year it was Rudolph , this year
it is Santa. He loves it. Katie from Blackhill said: ‘How can’t
you love a little dog in a cute Christmas costume’.
9. ALCOHOL INTAKE INCREASES TEN
FOLDChristmas is the merriest time of year and brings any amounts of
Christmas parties to attend. With that comes drinking, from mulled wine, to whisky for Santa there is
really any excuse for a drink. Christmas is the best time to go out with your friends or family, every body is festive and every
body is happy.
10. THE DINNERAnd of course finally the food. The food is probably the most iconic part of Christmas day
(except the birth of Jesus Christ). Turkey, gammon, pigs in
blankets and the infamous brussel sprouts whatever it is there will be plenty of it, and
there will be for days afterwards.
