There have surely been times where in an interview you were asked some questions and you did not know what to answer or, even worse, you answered something completely irrelevant. Most people make that mistake, but I believe we can avoid that.

#1. Tell me about yourself?

This is what they are most interested in hearing.

• Educational background

• Professional background

• Make sure you connect your professional background with the position you are applying for now

This is what they are not interested in hearing

• Hobbies

• Favorite food

• Make sure do you NOT mention this.

#2. What is your greatest strength?

This is your moment to shine. All they want to hear is work related strengths that are useful for the position you want to get. You should mention a number of strengths and be ready to back them up with a few examples.

#3. What is your greatest weakness?

A trick question. What they want from you is to turn something negative you might have into something positive. For example: “I am a perfectionist.” After you mention your “weakness” make sure you emphasize what you have done to overcome it.

#4. Why do you want to intern here?

And if you managed to do that. Congratulations, you are half way there.Sounds simple right?

Well it’s not. Most people are way too confident with what they have to say and they sometimes fail to say it right. All you have to do here is compare your own goals with the objective of the Host Organization and the position. Don’t forget to mention what a great asset you will be to them.

#5. Describe a time when you faced a difficult situation and how you overcame

it?OK. Here it gets kind of tough. Most people have

nothing to say in this question. Or even worse, they start mentioning irrelevant stuff, that have nothing to do with work. All they want is a solid answer on what you faced, how you overcame it at the time and what you learned from it. Make sure you mention how you plan to improve yourself if you happen to find a difficulty like this again.

#6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

How you will know you answered correctly? They will probably look like this.That is pretty simple. Say

that you see yourself as the head of the organization. NO, DO NOT DO THAT. Do NOTsay such a thing. What they want from you is to discuss your career goals and see not only that you have thought about it, but that you also have a solid plan to succeed those goals.

#7. What is your biggest accomplishment?

Try not to be cocky. Don’t mention thousands of accomplishments you have had in your life. Instead of that, mention your BIGGEST accomplishment that has immediate connection with the job you are interviewing for. For that, you must review your resume and the job posting. Make them see that your accomplishment will be beneficial to the Host Organization.

#8. Why should we hire you?

Well because you are the best. NO that is not it. You may be the best, but you can not just say that. What you can do is give concrete examples of your skills and accomplishments. Compare the job description with your abilities and after doing that imply that you would be the best candidate, but do that with examples.

#9. What do you know about us?

This is how we do it. Google search and notes are our friends.This requires careful

insight to the Host Organizations past. Check the social media pages and website to find out more about it. Mention your findings in the interview. This way they will be certain that you are interested in pursuing an internship with them. Also, check the LinkedIn accounts of the people that will interview you and Google them for further infromation.

#10. Do you have any questions for us?

This I believe is the most common question ever. They love this question. For that reason, it is essential to have some questions prepared ahead of time. This way they will be certain that you are eager to know and learn as much as possible about the Host Organization and position. Make sure the questions relate to your knowledge about them, but require more information for deeper understanding.
