Hudtloff Hurricane students have the responsibility to arrive on time and

come prepared to Mrs. Jackson’s class.

8:15 a.m. –8:25 a.m. You have many choices to make - take advantage of this time.

If you were previously absent or will be going on vacation or leaving for early dismissal, go to the attendance office and receive appropriate slips to

attend classes.Read the whiteboard (outside classroom door) to arrive prepared.

Use this time to also go to locker and put away your coats, backpacks, meet and greet your friends, go to the library, take care of business with Mrs.

Thomas, etc. This does not mean to loiter (hang around) outside the classroom door/hallway.

8:25 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. You have the opportunity to prepare for today’s work – sharpen pencils, access paper/writing tools, have your novel handy, get started on unfinished homework, etc.; read/write daily/weekly agenda

assignments, and most importantly, read what is posted on the overhead projector/document camera.

Food, Beverages, Etc.

No beverages, other than water, is allowed in the classroom

If you wish to bring a healthy snack, please have it pre-approved by Mrs. Jackson, and provide enough for every student (approx. 30)

No chewing gum allowed No candy allowed

Assigned Classroom Seating

While we are adjusting to our new schedule of arrival and preparedness, I will implement assigned

classroom seating for students.

Your ability to positively manage your behavior, avoid disrupting other students learning,

and/or Mrs. Jackson, will determine your ability to opt for student choice in seating arrangements.

Restroom Privilege’s during our Core Period

You may access the restroom after the first 30 minutes of attending class, but not 30 minutes before departing for the day.

In order to access your restroom privilege, fill out YOUR agenda to go accordingly.

Student System/Business Files

Mrs. Jackson has set up and made available to each student a cabinet and filing system.

Each student has a “While I Was Gone…” file. A team of students have volunteered to take attendance and put within this file any handouts or student work returned. Please look within for any work, assignments, reports, etc.

This file should also maintain your annual student portfolio, any extra paper, pencils/pens, novel (if space permits or place on classroom library shelf), or any materials that you wish to maintain in the classroom.

Classroom Subjects/Content,Textbooks,

and Required Materials Elements of Literature textbook-classroom set Write Source textbook-classroom set Novel – fiction novel independently selected by student, to

be brought to class every school day Literature Journal – Spiral Notebook for Reading Only -

reading journal entries are focused on the elements of fiction (setting, plot, theme and character(s)

Writing/Thinking Journal – Spiral Notebook showing student practice with brainstorming and prewriting when responding to writing prompts, thinking routines, reflection, sketching, etc.

Social Studies textbook – issued to student Geography textbook – issued to student Spiral Notebook for Outlines Only Varied writing tools (red/purple/green pens for grading),

highlighters, two to four #2 pencils, 2 black/blue pens Paper – Three- holed, lined paper

Classroom Assignments Students submitting any assignment are

expected to post the proper heading on each assignment.

Example of Proper Heading (see the whiteboard)

Assignments submitted on paper with torn edges/holes will not be accepted.

Please pay attention to homework and assignment due dates; assignments will not be accepted after the due date.

If you are absent, you are not exempt from assignments, please be sure to submit your work accordingly (look in your agenda).

How to Determine What You Have Missed

Review the Daily/Weekly Agenda Check your “While I Was Gone…” file Look over the wooden shelf (beside

the bookshelf), situated on top of the table, for extra handouts, if any.
