Machines are industrial assets that need to be maintained regularly in order to work in the most efficient and most reliable way. Just like going to a dentist for your regular check up. Waiting when you have a toothache before going to the dentist would be more costly, frustrating (scheduling issues) and painful.

Ultrasound PdM Vibration Analysis & Diagnostics

Just like people, different technologies should be employed to get a better idea on the health condition of any machinery. This could include ultrasound, vibration analysis, motor testing, oil analysis, and infrared.


Qué es Ultrasound PdM?

A technique that uses high frequency detectors to detect the high frequency signals that a friction energy produces as the rolling elements rotate inside a housing or raceways.


Ultrasonic PdM

Different brand of detectors, different models, same purpose. A trained inspector will know what to do.


Vibration Analysis

A technique used to understand the machine’s response to internal or external stimulus or force applied to it. Vibration analysis identifies the source of stimulus that makes the machine behave accordingly.


Vibration Analysis

Different analyzers with the same capabilities, sensors, and settings will give similar spectrum on the same location point of the same machine in the hands of a trained inspector.

Ultrasound Caution

1. Ultrasonic detector detects ultrasonic signal – does not differentiate source. Signal can be from a pump cavitation, bearing problem, under/over lubrication, etc.

2. Highly sensitive to changes in operating conditions, i.e., speed, load, flow, temperature, etc.

3. Proper and consistent technique and location spot is very important.


Vibration Caution

1. Correct machine information entered i.e., type of machine, rpm, teeth count, coupling, etc.

2. Proper sensor location and orientation.

3. Process changes can affect reading.
