For my last birthday, my parents took me to a very special restaurant. My father said to the waiter, “It’s my son’s birthday today! We’d like to sit next to the window, please.” “Of course!” said the waiter. “I’ll give you the best table in the restaurant.” The restaurant was full, but the waiter took us to a table next to the window. We sat down. There weren’t any people at the table, but there was still food and drink on the table. The waiter began to take the food and drink away. “Perhaps the people who ordered this food didn’t like it,” I said to my dad. My dad said, “Perhaps not. But it’s the best restaurant in town – with very expensive food! Just then, a group of people came to our table. They were surprised* to see us. When the waiter saw them, his face went red. “We just went to wash our hands before dinner!” they said to him. “We are still eating!”
One night, I went to a restaurant with my dad. My dad ordered soup, and I ordered a hamburger and chips. My hamburger and chips were very good and arrived quickly. My dad’s soup arrived late, so he was very hungry. But he couldn’t eat it. There was a fly* in it! He called the waiter. “Waiter! There’s a fly in my soup!” he said. The waiter looked at the fly. “Don’t worry, sir. It’s dead*.” My father shouted, “That’s not the problem! What is it doing in my soup?” The waiter smiled and thought about the question. “Perhaps it wanted to learn to swim.”We didn’t go back to that restaurant again, and we never will!
