Toyota Assessment of SAB Systems• From the beginning of Toyota’s SAB

development, systems were assessed by stringent internal standards.

• These internal standards included assessment of OOP risk to children.

• Since the OOP voluntary procedures were published (August 2000), all Toyota systems are designed according to these procedures.

11

OOP Test Results – Head and Neck

• In all positions, HIC values ≤ 1% of reference value.

• All neck measures were also well within limits.

12

OOP Test Results – Chest• Most challenging loading to the chest occurred

for the 3 yo Rear Facing Position.

OOP Test Results of Large Sedan

• Large Sedan

• Assessment using Voluntary OOP Test Procedures

• Seat mounted torso bag

• Curtain Shield air bag (front and rear)

OOP Test Results – Large Sedan• In all positions, HIC values ≤ 10% of reference value.

• All neck measures were also within limits.

• Chest values were well below limits.

15

Upper and Lower Neck Considerations

• For both the mid-sized and large sedans, measurements for upper and lower neck criteria were within the research limits.

• Highest neck loading was observed for the 3 yo and 6 yo in Forward Facing on Booster Block Position.
