1 NAPLAN NAPLAN results have been handed back to students last week. NAPLAN is a snapshot in me and is certainly not the only form of assessment we use to make informed decisions about a child’s learning progression. The data shows trends in our school’s learning history and can be ulised to make informed decisions as to where we need to go next in our planning. If you have any quesons regarding the feedback provided you can visit the following website hps://www.nap.edu.au/informaon/faqs/naplan--results-reports-performance for more in- formaon, or you can contact the office to make an appointment to discuss any quesons you may have. Communicaon It is important to myself and the staff at Thirlmere Public School that we are consistently im- proving our performance and how we support our children and school community. Between now and the end of Term 4, parents will be asked to complete several surveys. These surveys will help us to make key decisions regarding planning for 2018 and how to improve our cur- rent pracces. Please keep a look out for these surveys in the near future. We have also placed a communicaon box in the front office for parents to provide feedback, comments or suggesons. You may like to tell us what we are doing well or something you think we can improve. Zone Athlecs Congratulaons to the children who will be represenng our school at the Zone Athlecs Carni- val this Thursday and Friday. We are looking forward to a great day where children try their best and represent our school with enthusiasm, good sportsmanship and a sense of pride. Whiteboard Markers
We need your help! Each and every day whiteboard markers are used in our class-rooms to support our daily teaching tasks. Children use whiteboards and whiteboard markers to recall facts, practice writing, answer questions, ask questions and provide instant feedback to the teacher. Children love to utilise the markers and whiteboards and we feel this is a beneficial practice we would like to continue. Unfortunately markers are expensive to buy and the schools stationery budget will not allow us to continually replenish this resource. So we would like to ask our families to support us in the continued use of this resource and donate whiteboard markers to the school. You can donate as many or as few as you are able.
All donated markers will be utilised and stored in classrooms. If you are able to help out, please leave your donations in the office. We thank you for your continued sup-port.

On Friday the 11th August, 6 teams represented our school at the Milo T20 Cricket Day. Each team played 4 games. Out of 24 games we only lost one which is a great indication of the outstanding batting, bowling and fielding skills displayed. The sportsmanship students showed throughout the competition should also be com-mended. The stand out for the day was our senior girls team, who played all day with one player short. They managed to win all of their matches and make it to the final, which they won. They will now represent our school at the Milo T20 Re-gional Finals. We wish them the very best! Wollondilly Community of Schools’ Science Fair
Last Thursday 17th August a group of 13 of our budding Thirl-
mere P.S Scientists presented their sustainability themed sci-
ence projects at the ‘Wollondilly Community of Schools’ Sci-
ence Fair. The projects were of particularly high standard
across all divisions, with competition at its highest in the
Stage 3 division. Students displayed exemplary behaviour
throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed the science show
put on by Picton High School.
The day ended with particular excitement with our very own
Jimmy T and Tsehay H placing 1st and 2nd respectively in the
Stage 3 division! The excitement did not stop there as Jimmy
then went on to become the overall winner for the day! His
project on ‘How solar cells work’ saw him take out a very
close competition that involved high school students in the
Stage 4 and Stage 5 divisions.
A huge congratulations to all our Stage 3 scientists for repre-
senting Thirlmere P.S with such pride and enthusiasm.

Term 3 Canteen Roster- 2017 We encourage and welcome new volunteers to our Canteen roster. We are one of the last schools in the district to have a fully volunteer- run canteen. Because of this, the price of our food is cheaper and all the profits go back to the school. It is a good way to meet other parents and grandparents whilst serving in-teresting and healthy food to the students of Thirlmere PS. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Roster Co-ordinator, Vanessa Zahra on 0408 650 319 or [email protected].
