living among the dead?

Christ died once and for all and He lives

forevermore. The Lord who died for our

sins is also the One who reigns and lives in our

hearts.

– Why did the Lord Rise?

1. So that the Scriptures might be fulfilled (vs. 6-7; Matt. 20:17-19)

Luke 24:6-7

<6> He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you

when he was yet in Galilee,

<7> Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third

day rise again.

Matthew 20:17-19<17> And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the

way, and said unto them, <18> Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed

unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to

death, <19> And shall deliver him to the

Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall

rise again.

2. So that the Gospel might be completed (1 Corinthians 15;1-4; 2 Timothy 2:8)

The Gospel became the power of God unto salvation because of the resurrection.

12

1 Cor. 15:1-4<1> Moreover, brethren, I declare

unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye

have received, and wherein ye stand;

<2> By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I

preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

13

<3> For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins

according to the scriptures;

<4> And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day

according to the scriptures:

14

2 Tim. 2:8

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of

David was raised from the dead according

to my gospel:

3. So that the victory might be complete, even the victory over suffering (1 Cor. 15:54-57).

Page 16: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

16

1 Cor. 15:54-57<54> So when this corruptible

shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on

immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

<55> O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Page 17: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

17

<56> The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is

the law.

<57> But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ.

II. The Guarantees of the Resurrection

– What does His being risen guarantee?

Page 19: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

19

1. It guarantees our salvation (Romans 10:9-10).

2. It guarantees new life that believers enjoy (Romans 6:4-11).

3. It guarantees our true faith (1 Cor. 15:13-17).

Page 20: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

20

Romans 10:9-10<9> That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

<10> For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Page 21: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

21

Romans 6:4-11<4> Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

<5> For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Page 22: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

22

Romans 6:7-11<6> Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

<7> For he that is dead is freed from sin.

<8> Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

Page 23: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

23

<9> Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

<10> For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

<11> Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Page 24: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

24

1 Cor. 15:13-17

<13> But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

<14> And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

Page 25: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

25

<15> Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

<16> For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

<17> And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

Page 26: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

26

4. It guarantees victory over death (1 Cor. 15:54-57)

5. It guarantees the resurrection of the saved people at His coming (1 Cor. 15:51-53)

Page 27: 1 THE RISEN LORD Text: Luke 24:1-9. 2 Luke 24:1-9 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing.

1 Cor. 15:54-57<54> So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

<55> O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

<57> But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

29

1 Cor. 15:51-53<51> Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, <52> In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. <53> For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

6. It guarantees eternal life after death (John 11:25-26)

7. It guarantees that our labor shall be rewarded (1 Cor. 15:58).

31

John 11:25-26

<25> Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection,

and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were

dead, yet shall he live:

<26> And whosoever liveth and believeth in me

shall never die. Believest thou this?

32

1 Cor. 15:58

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast,

unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain

in the Lord.

Phil. 3:10-11

<10> That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the

fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto

his death;

<11> If by any means I might attain unto the

resurrection of the dead.
