The parables of JesusThe parables of Jesus

• In His parables Jesus used simple common earthly materials to explain heavenly reality.

• It is when He spoke of the heavenly dimension in the parable that the sting of the sting of the parablethe parable was most painful.

• When God rules on earth some rules will be changed...and Jesus had to teach it.

• Matthew 20:1-15• For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man

that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. 2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,

And they went their way. 5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. 6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle

• 7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive. 8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. 9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. 10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. 11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, .

The key of justice and mercyThe key of justice and mercy

• 12  Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. 13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?

14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee. 15  Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? 16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen

ExplanationsExplanations

• 1. Which side would you side with: the workers or the householder?

• The workers are earthly, the householder is heavenly.

• The householder was more than fair…he was merciful.

Page 8: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

Justice and mercyJustice and mercy

• They are on the same line, but mercy goes much more than justice. Mercy gives more than you deserve.

Justice Mercy

The earthly society lives by merit but the kingdom of God operates by mercy

9

Justice and mercyJustice and mercy

• God is both merciful and just.

• God gives us more than justice.

• We have no right to mercy but we have right to justice. He shows mercy to whoever He wills.

• Do you have rights in the Kingdom of God?

Page 10: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

10

Who does God show mercy Who does God show mercy to?to?

• It is not by luck that we are blessed.

• God will not bless you with healing, prosperity, protection, guidance, knowledge, fellowship, etc…without a basis….how does GOD choose who to bless?...how does He bless beyond our expectations?

Page 11: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

The three tripletsThe three triplets

• The Fear of the Lord

• The Holiness of the Lord

• The Mercy of the Lord.

• These are key eternal attributes of God which we must understand in our walk and dealing with the Almighty God.

12

Who receives mercy?Who receives mercy?

• 1. God shows mercy to those who ask.

• Luke 18:9-14• 9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in

themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

Page 13: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

13

Be merciful to Me!Be merciful to Me!

• 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Page 14: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

14

ExplanationsExplanations

• 1. People need to be desperate and humble to ask for mercy.

• 2. There is a prayer that God will never refuse to answer.

• 3. Some people need to feel they are not good enough or they are not bad enough.

Page 15: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

15

• 2. God shows mercy to those who pass it on.2. God shows mercy to those who pass it on.

• Matthew 18:21-35• Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft

shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents.

Page 16: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

16

• 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. 28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest. 29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Page 17: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

17

• 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee? 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him. 35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

ExplanationExplanation

• He was given more mercy than justice! But he did not show that same mercy to others.

• This is the way Our Heavenly Father shall do to those who do not show mercy.

• We must imitate the God of mercy

• John 8:2-12

• And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

Page 20: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

20

• 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the lawin the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6  This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

Page 21: 1 The Principle of mercy Bro JosphertCIFC 28 June 2009.

21

• 8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11  She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

ExplanationsExplanations

• 1. it was a political trap and a religious trap.• 2.He that has not done the same sin let him

be first to cast a stone.• 3. I do not condemn you….go and sin no

more.• 4. I show you mercy but stop

• 7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. 8 The LORD The LORD isis merciful and gracious, slow to anger, merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercyand plenteous in mercy. 9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever. 10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. 11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, For as the heaven is high above the earth, soso grea great is his mercy toward them that fear himt is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitiethas a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. 14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. 3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. 4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. 6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
