All Apparatus

Body Position Requirements

-Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance elements

-Piked < 90 º hip angle in salto and dance elements In Double Salto-dismount UB or Vault a stretched

body position must be maintained for a minimum of 360 º BA salto.

FX: In double saltos a stretched body position must be maintained in the 1st salto and min. 3/4 of the second salto.

Stretch Position

3

Requirements stated in the article 7.1 is a guideline for ideal performance of the element. Nevertheless recognition of body position in saltos and flight elements (UB) occurs when the body is in inverted position.

5

Completion of twists/turns

The placement of the front hand (on back handsprings with turns) or foot is decisive when awarding the difficult value.

9

Swings – circle elements with turns that do not reach the 10 º required and continue movement after turn completion in opposite direction.

Circle Elements without turn and flight elements that do not reach the 10 º required

Note: Circle element without turn: If at least one body part completed below horizontal = another element from Code

Circle elements with or without turns to Handstand & Flight elements from HB to LB

Page 10: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

Swing Principle

10

•Swing principle can be applied to any element with turn required to reach handstand but failed more than 10° before handstand. •For swing elements with 1/2 turn all body parts must reach at least horizontal to receive DV, otherwise No DV will be credited and will be considered as Empty swing. i.e. Giant ½ turn

Page 11: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

11

Circle elements with or without turns to Handstand & Flight elements from HB to LB

Elements that are required to reach handstand but do not reach the 10° required are devalued

On HB, Swing fwd. with ½ and flight to hstd on LB; and Swing bwd- straddle flight bwd over LB to hstd on LB

12

-If element is not finished within 10° before vertical (inside the bars), credit 1 DV lower only when gymnast is able to perform half turn and continue to the next element/glide kip. -If element is NOT finished within 10° before vertical (inside the bars) and after support on the LB gymnast falls, NO DV will be credited. -If element IS finished within 10° before vertical (inside the bars) and after support on the LB gymnast falls, DV will be credited.

Page 13: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

On HB, Swing fwd. with ½ and flight to hstd on LB; and Swing bwd- straddle flight bwd over LB to hstd on LB

13

If gymnast grabs the LB but falls after passing the LB (outside the bars), DV still will be credited even though she was not able to continue to the next element/glide kip. Follow principle 7.4.3 of the Code: Circle elements without turn and Flight elements from HB to Handstand on LB.

16

Balance Beam and Floor ExerciseTurn recognition in dance elements

The turn must be completed exactly or the Lower DV will be recognized.

In addition to the foot placement the position of the hip and shoulders should be taken into consideration.

Page 17: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

17

Turns on One Leg

Turns on One Leg are in increments of:

180° for BB 360° for FX

Page 18: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

18

For under turning:

3/1 turn becomes 2/1 turn (FX) 2/1 turn becomes 11/2 turn (BB)

Page 19: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

19

Turn Considerations:

Must be performed on the toes. Have a fixed and well defined shape throughout the turn. The support leg whether stretched or bent does not change the

value of the difficulty. Degree of rotation is determined once the heel and/or free leg

drops. (turn is considered finished)

Page 20: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

TURNS ON ONE LEG

For turns on 1 leg requiring the free leg to be at a specific position, the position must be maintained throughout the turn.

If leg is not in prescribed position - credit one DV lower (if there is no element in the Code)

When a gymnast does not maintain her free leg in the specific position from the beginning to the end of the turn, but completes the turn on the support leg, then no deduction for precision will be applied.

20

Page 21: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

21

Jumps, leaps, hops with turns(Increments of 180º for BB and FX)

If landing on 2 feet - the placement of the front foot is decisive when awarding the difficulty value.

If landing on 1 foot - the position of the hip and shoulders are decisive.

Dance elements devalued (no DV) due to a technical failure may still be considered beautiful choreography without deduction, provided the body line is pleasing. However, if the body line is not good or there are other execution or technical errors, deductions should be applied.

Various techniques of jump turns are permitted including piking, tucking or straddling the legs in the beginning, middle or end of the turn.

Switch Split Leap with 1/1 turn

When free leg is bent becomes Split Leap 1/1 turn

May deduct for insufficient split.

Deduct for bent free leg.

When free leg is bent and only 1/2 turn is completed becomes Split Leap ½ turn

May deduct for insufficient split and precision.

Deduct for bent free leg.

35

Page 36: 1 Technical Element Recognition Article 7. 2 All Apparatus Body Position Requirements -Tucked < (less than) 90º hip and knee angle in salto and dance.

Johnson Leap with ½ Turn

If a gymnast does not complete ½ turn and her free leg swing is less than 45º or is bent – to consider as side split leap (1.101). The gymnast may perform Johnson with ½ turn again in the same exercise and receive DV (if performed correctly).

If a gymnast completes ½ turn, but her free leg swing is less than 45º or is bent – to credit 1 DV lower (there is no side split leap with ½ turn in the COP). If the gymnast repeats Johnson with ½ turn again in the same exercise she would not receive DV (repetition of the same element).
