Where does time go? I cannot believe I am fast approaching my final Delta Kappa

Gamma meeting as President. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and am so

grateful for the trust you placed in me two years ago. I began this journey nervously,

but what a joy to have the support of excellent officers.

Gloria stepped in and agreed to serve when her chapter needed her. She is truly the

most organized, quietly supportive, and one of the funniest people I know. Many

times these last years Gloria and I have looked at each other and known what the

other was thinking. Scary!? But, Great! I have few friends that I can do that with, but

guess what? Several of them are DKG members. Maybe teacher minds think alike? I

have long admired Gloria’s leadership style as a former Tau Chapter president. I

have gone to her many times for help and advice and she has always given it self-

lessly.

Cherlynn has been a supportive and tirelessly working second vice president. Cher-

lynn, I will never forget us trying to navigate the new lake roads while trying to meet

with Jana Siefkas, on time, to plan the state convention. You kept me calm and we

finally got there. Just like you helped keep me calm and focused during this bien-

nium. And how can we ever thank you for getting those wonderful State books for

the State Convention? They were such a hit.

Julie continues to serve as our chapter Secretary and will do so with our new Presi-

dent. She is faithful at meetings and duties. Julie does all of this for the chapter

while at the same time taking care of her family and her many responsibilities as a

principal. We are so lucky she volunteers to serve Tau Chapter year after year.

Paulette does what I have a terrible time doing. She balances a budget continuously.

Paulette also keeps and submits the many financial reports necessary to make sure

our chapter is in good standing with the state and national organization of DKG.

Paulette also faithfully serves our chapter year in and year out. We are so very fortu-

nate.

Judy is actually the motor of the Chapter. She makes sure we are all connected and

know what is going on with members. I belong to several organizations and I have to

tell you the newsletters I receive from them are pretty matter of fact and “okay.” But,

I look forward to reading Tau Tales. It would be safe to say we all do. Judy is a jewel

in our treasure chest of members.

Tau Chapter is blessed with so many outstanding members who step up and serve

when asked. All of our committee chairs said yes so positively when asked and have

done a superb job! It does take all of us to make our Chapter one of the most envied

in the state.

Wherever I went this year and identified myself, people would ask, “What are you doing at Tau that is working?” I talk about our members, programs and meetings that are varied and fun. It is unseemly to brag on oneself but I think we do need to take a moment and with a happy breath say to ourselves, “We are a great chapter!” The women who have gone before us, who helped establish this chapter, would be so proud of our new members, and our members who continue to serve.

Tau Chapter began its February meeting at the Public School Retirement

building. Stacie Verslues, member education coordinator, gave members a

tour of the facility, and ended with a program about the services and bene-

fits provided by the retirement system.

Those in attendance went to the home of member Betty Mudd, where a

luncheon was enjoyed by all. After lunch, President Linda Eisinger presided

over the business meeting. She thanked members for ringing children’s hats

and gloves to be donated to local agencies in Jefferson City, California, and

the Lake area for distribution to children in need of the items.

Members of the group then reviewed scholarship applications from young

women tin area schools, voting on their selection of recipients. Scholarships

will be presented to the students at the April meeting.

Linda presented the slate of officers for the 2012-2014 biennium: president,

Arlene Broecker; first vice president, Terri Steffes; second vice president, Bev

Kinkaid; secretary, Julie Martin; treasurer, Paulette Fischer; and parliamen-

tarian, Colleen Abbott.

Linda reminded members of the upcoming state convention April 13-15 in

Springfield. Anyone wishing to attend should contact the president or the

treasurer.

The April meeting is at the Ninth Street Christian Church in Eldon.

First Vice President’s Letter

Dear Tau Chapter Members, I just returned to school after a wonderful and much needed Spring Break! This is the first year we have had a whole week off, and the weather was wonderful (even if it was rainy at times!). Thank you to Betty Mudd and Arlene Broeker for hosting the February meeting in Jefferson City. Stacie Verslues did a wonderful job with the tour and presenta-tion at the Public School Retirement System building. The April 21st meeting is shaping up to be a busy one as well! New officers will be installed, new members initiated, and Recruitment Grant recipients honored. In addition, Arlene will lead a Recommitment Ceremony for all members. I will have a survey for members to complete about program ideas, meeting times, etc. This survey is used to guide the new Executive Board in plan-ning for the next biennium, so please be thinking of programming ideas and any new di-rections you would like to see Tau Chapter take. Our Hostess Chair, Sharon Buster, and her committee are planning a lovely luncheon for us at the 9th Street Christian Church in Eldon. I look forward to seeing all of you at the April 21st meeting!

Calling All Artists!

Capital Arts and the Jefferson City Art Club are pleased to announce the “ Adult Artists” Exhibit – Jefferson City Art Club” April 21-June 7.

This exhibit is a long standing tradition sponsored by the Jefferson City Art Club. Artists from Cole and surround-ing counties come together to exhibit their talents in drawing, painting and sculpture. This is a judged show, with professionals and amateurs receiving honors with ribbons, “Best of Show” and “People’s Choice” awards. An application can be found online at www.capitalarts.org or www.jeffersoncityartclub.org.

Art drop off is on Thursday, April 19th 4-6 p.m. You can pick-up your artwork on Thursday, June 7th 4-6 p.m.

that mommies could use. The economy has made it very dif-

“The vocal music teachers discussed their programs and resources with the Califor-

nia R-I School Board at it regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 18. . .

High school vocal music teacher Michele Bilyeu said the new facility is greatly ap-

preciated and has added to the programs. She also mentioned that there are 56 stu-

dents in the piano classes, putting some stress on the ‘piano lab.’ The lab is six years

old and, while it is running now, may not be operation well for much longer.” David

I have resigned my position as principal at California effective at the

end of June. I plan to get my dissertation written which is on School

Compliance on Section 504 Plans in Missouri and to MAYBE pursue

another education venue. I am footloose and fancy free right now!

The 8th grade GATES students in Mrs. Blevins’s class have created a

“Revolutionary, Nonpollutionary, Book Collecting Wonder” as part of a contest

sponsored by the MO Conservation and Highway Department. This year’s con-

test entry was inspired by the ever popular children’s movie Willy Wonka and the

Chocolate Factory. This special container is currently in the UE Library awaiting

the collection of gently used or new children’s books. We are campaigning to

collect books to be placed in the Buddy Pack Program packs. During the next

several weeks, we ask you to clean out your closets and book shelves to find

books you would like to recycle to us!

If interested in helping with this cause, please bring your gently used

or new book donations to the TAU meeting on April 21st.

The NE Leadership Workshop will be

at the J Huston Tavern in Arrow Rock, MO

Though mainly for newly elected presidents and officers, anyone who would like to attend is

welcome.

You’ve been a gracious, capable leader, and I appreciate

your constant support and inspiration. Thank you for car-

rying on the fine tradition of service to Tau.

Linda, you’ve done an exemplary job of repre-

senting our Tau chapter as president. I know

I've relied on her many times to give me direc-

tions and advice about DKG matters and I know

you have also been a BIG help to others as well

as you have to me.

I sometimes feel Linda sells herself short when it comes to leading Tau Chapter. While I did answer questions about meetings and procedures from time to time, she really already had things under control, and just needed me to reassure her rather than guide her. I think she has brought a fresh perspective to her position, as have many of our leaders in the past. It is evident from her article each month in Tau Tales that education is her passion, and writing seems to be her forte! Per-haps she could compile her stories, anecdotes and memories into a best seller one day. (Available in print or on NOOK!) I have enjoyed working with Linda be-cause I feel she is little more laid back than I tend to be, which is calming for me. Maybe she is really obsessive and compulsive about things, but it doesn’t come across that way. However, I did see her wild side come out when she was play-ing Bunco at the State Convention… J Congratulations, Linda, on a job well done!
