One Table Two Chairs (1T2C) is a standardized set design in traditional Chinese theatre.

對香港這個城市,1997年是一個重要的年

份。對中英兩國來說,1997年將是他們對歷史

互相作出交代,預先張揚的年份。由社會科學和

政治角度看,1997年的香港是一個史前無例,

嶄新實驗的開始。若果由人類進化史看,年份這

單位微小到毫不足道,年份就只不過是年份。人

類對時間的基本觀念,本來就止乎過去、現在和

未來。我書寫這篇文字是現在,你閱讀這篇文字

時,我的書寫經驗已是過去。1997年遲早而且很

快地,將成為過去。但是,對香港這個城市,未

來歷史記載中,1997年這年份還是會成為重要的

焦點。而任何在這個年份裏,在香港進行的活動

和發生的事件,都走不脫1997年這個註腳。

在1997年,香港將會結束156年英國統治

下殖民地的身份。由這個年度開始,香港回歸中

國,在一國兩制,港人治港,高度自治的指標

下,揭開新的一頁,調整新的文化身份。156年

以來,香港由一個漁村文化的身份,轉變成殖民

地,再由輕工業社會發展至金融中心,以至今日

國際大都會,香港在不斷調整,適應下發展,並

建立一種獨特的中華文化。在1997年之後,香港

將會面對更新、更大的文化挑戰。在這些挑戰下

所作出的反思、回應、調整和發展,將會是香港

和中國兩岸一次重要的文化旅程。這個文化旅程

肯定會觸及並影響中華文化在世界的定位;亦會

對兩岸間的文化交流和發展,甚至亞洲以至世界

其他地區的跨文化意識形態發展有必然影響。

在1997年,兩岸和香港的藝術工作者會如

何為自己定位?如何通過作品去交流、反思、前

瞻和再創作?文化評論人如何為自己定位?如何

通過工作去論述,評估這些現象和這段經驗?學

術界又如何為自己定位?如何為兩岸和香港的文

化藝術界記錄、整理、分析這些現象和這段經

驗?並協助兩岸和香港的文化界、理性地、有系

統地建立並扶助創作的「學問」工具?文化政策

訂定者又將會如何為自己定位?如何深入研究文

化和經濟政治制度間的關係,同時並結合藝術工

作者、評論人士、學者共同進行對話,研討具體

方案,去迎接和發展更廣闊的文化視野?

在1997年,兩岸和香港的藝術工作者、文

化評論者和學者、文化政策訂定者之間,又會怎

樣進行平等而有創意的對話?

香港科技大學藝術中心、進念.二十面體

和香港當代文化藝術中心在這個概念基礎上合作

舉辦這次「第一屆城市文化國際會議—中國

旅程 '97」 的文化交流計劃。《中國旅程 '97》

共分三部分。
