BACKGROUND: TRINIX DV-33512/NXT-512X512 BROADLINX AND POWER INTERCONNECTS
For enhanced serviceability, Grass Valley Trinix digital video routers now support 1 RU BroadLinx—Grass Valley’s web-based status and monitoring solution. The 1 RU BroadLinx option combines network interface, sync input and output monitor circuitry, allowing LAN-based control by Encore/SMS and system monitoring function via Microsoft Internet Explorer. SNMP/NetCentral system monitoring is also available.
However, prior to deploying the 1 RU BroadLinx, users need to plan and provision their Trinix digital video routers, chassis and power supplies to accommodate the updated interconnects.
This document provides guidance for upgrading existing Trinix 512x512 systems based on the 4 RU Unipower power supply chassis to the latest 1 RU BroadLinx chassis and 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis. The document is split into three sections:
a) Background: Trinix DV-33512/NXT-512x512 BroadLinx and power interconnects
b) Planning: Trinix DV-33512/NXT-512x512 required connectivity to deploy the 1 RU BroadLinx-based system
c) Implementation: Trinix DV-33512/NXT-512x512 upgrade path to the 1 RU BroadLinx
There are also variations in the power supply chassis used with Trinix 512x512 systems. Four different models of power supply chassis have been made commercially available:
• 1 RU Lineage Tertiary Power Supply Chassis (TRX-PSFRM-TER-1 RU)
• 1 RU Lineage Power Supply Chassis (TRX-PSFRM-1 RU)
Trinix 512x512 systems have been commercially available in two different models: the DV-33512 and the NXT-512x512. These chassis are very similar but vary with respect to the manner in which external power is connected to the system. The two power terminal variants are:
• DV-33512 with DC terminal lug input
• NXT-512x512 with circular DC input
DV-33512 with DC terminal lug input NXT-512x512 with circular DC input

The 1 RU BroadLinx chassis and 1 RU power supplies require one of the two following configurations based on Trinix chassis (DV-33512 or NXT-512x512):
DV-33512 with 1 RU BroadLinx Chassis and 1 RU Power Supplies
These chassis are comprised of a Trinix DV-33512 chassis, 1 RU BroadLinx chassis (with BroadLinx cards) and two 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis (with 1200W power supplies) which are interconnected as follows:
• Main power cable(s) (731-0270-00; ASSY TRINIX NXT EXT DC POWER CABLE) from 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis to DV-33512 chassis via socket to terminal block connectors.
• Secondary power cable(s) (731-0341-00; CBL,ASSY,TRX-BL-FRM-1
RU PWR) from 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis to 1 RU BroadLinx chassis via terminal block to socket connectors.
• “PM Bus” cable(s) (731-0265-00; ASSY CNTL INTERFACE CABLE TRINIX) from 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis to 1 RU BroadLinx chassis via Header to D-type connectors.
• “IFC” cable (731-0343-00; ASSY CABLE IFC TRX512 TO TRX-BL-FRM-1 RU) from 1 RU BroadLinx chassis to DV-33512 chassis via D-type to D-type connectors.
• “Com Bus” cable(s) (174-8187-00; CABLE,SHLD PATCH CORD 4PR STRD RJ45 10FT) from 1 RU BroadLinx chassis to DV-33512 via RJ-45 connectors.
• LAN cables(s) (not provided) from 1 RU BroadLinx chassis to management network via RJ-45 connectors.
NXT-512x512 with 1 RU BroadLinx Chassis and 1 RU Power Supplies
These systems are comprised of a Trinix NXT-512x512 chassis, 1 RU BroadLinx chassis (with BroadLinx cards) and two 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis (with 1200W power supplies) which are interconnected as follows:
• Main power cable(s) (86229200; ASSY DC POWER CABLE) from 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis to NXT-512x512 chassis via socket to terminal block connectors.
• Secondary power cable(s) (731-0341-00; CBL,ASSY,TRX-BL-FRM-1 RU PWR) from 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis to 1 RU BroadLinx chassis via terminal block to socket connectors.
• “PM Bus” cable(s) (731-0265-00; ASSY CNTL INTERFACE CABLE TRINIX) from 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis to 1 RU BroadLinx chassis via Header to D-type connectors.

Note: The wires connecting to terminal lugs L3 and L4 have black shrink sleeve. The red wires on L1 and L2 indicate the positive connections (+48v) and the black-sleeved wires to L3 & L4 indicate the negative connections (-48V).

Upgrading DV-33512 systems will require the deployment of the 1 RU BroadLinx chassis (TRX-BL-FRM-1RU), two 1 RU Lineage tertiary power supply chassis (TRX-PSFRM-TER-1RU), two DC power cables (731-0270-00) and a total of 4-6 Lineage power supplies (TRX-PSU-1200W). The Lineage tertiary power supply chassis and power supplies will need to be added to any systems that do not currently have them in place. The 1 RU BroadLinx chassis will need to be added to all systems. If the existing system does not already include two DC power cables (731-0270-00) they will have to be added as well.
Upgrading NXT-512x512 systems will require the deployment of the 1 RU BroadLinx chassis (TRX-BL-FRM-1RU), two 1 RU Lineage power supply chassis (TRX-PSFRM-1RU) and a total of 4-6 Lineage power supply chassis (TRX-PSU-1200W). The Lineage power supply chassis and power supplies will need to be added to any systems that do not currently have them in place. The 1 RU BroadLinx chassis will need to be added to all systems.
Any Unipower tertiary power supply chassis and power supplies should be removed from the system (DV-33512 or NXT-512x512) during the upgrade process.
