Understanding the Publisher Window and Task Panes (continued)

Current task pane appears to the left of the publication.

Task panes contain options for modifying your publication.

Clip Art task pane used to add clip art. Format Publication task pane used to change

color scheme, font scheme and page size.

Creating Business Information Sets

Business information set is a collection of information about an individual.

Stored in Publisher and associated with templates.

Create using Business Information command on Edit menu or the Business Information task pane.

Saving a Publication

Save As dialog box used to name publication.

Once saved, the Save command can be used.

Can also be saved by clicking the Save button on the Standard toolbar.

Modifying a Publication

Begin by choosing a template. Modify using task panes and toolbars. Publisher supplies basic shape tools and clip

art. Create a logo from scratch or from clip art. A logo is a symbol used to help customers

remember a company and its products.

Inserting a Design Gallery Object

Design Gallery provides designs and text placeholders.

Items in Design Gallery are referred to as Design Gallery Objects.

Used to enhance a publication’s appearance and functionality.

To insert an object, click the Design Gallery Object tool on the Objects toolbar.

Using Design Checker

Design Checker task pane finds and lists potential design problems.

Four types of checks– General design– Commercial printing– Web site – E-mail

You can opt to fix errors or leave as is.

Printing a Publication

Click File from the menu bar, then Print, to access the Print dialog box.

Preview window is available to preview your publication.

To print without the dialog box, click the Print button on the Standard toolbar.

Click the Printer name arrow to select your printer from a list.

Closing a Publication

The Publisher program does not have a Close Window in the top-right corner to close only the publication.

Close button closes the entire Publisher program.

To close your publication without closing Publisher, click File from the menu bar, and then click Close.

Microsoft Publisher allows you to produce professional-looking publications in almost any format imaginable.

The process is made easier with the use of templates and design gallery objects.

You can modify a template using the Format Publication task pane.

A Design Gallery Object is a design or text placeholder.
