Making Decisions on Day One• Girls divide into small groups: to

brainstorm ideas or plan (e.g., for Friday’s skit)

• Unit Leaders may have pre-determined choices: allow girls to vote (e.g., menu for cooking day, unit’s extra activities)

Emergency Weather Instructions

• Car horns and whistles will sound…

• STOP all activity and take shelter.

• Assign one leader to report to HQ for Information. Note: Leader should be prepared to call unit campers’ emergency contacts.

• If you are uncomfortable with the weather but have not heard horns or whistles, seek shelter and notify HQ staff.

• Extremely frightened girls can accompany an adult to HQ.

• Attendance is very important. Conduct a headcount once the shelter is reached.

• All Units should report to the main Headquarters Shelter. This shelter is the only one grounded in case of lightning, therefore we don’t use the other shelters anymore.

Note: Units #1 and #14 should take the road to HQ. If weather turns bad on the way be prepared to take cover in nearest ditch.

Decisions to make about the Cooking Day

• Purpose – experience for girls• What to cook - keep it simple• Time allotted for fire, meal• Familiar cooking, something new• Cooking group (Kapers)• Food storage• Seasonal foods• What should scouts bring from home?

Hint: Plan an activity for campers not cooking (Ex: easy potlatch)

First Aid at Camp

• Health screening – on first day• First Aid kits• Pink health forms - for all campers, leaders,

preschoolers, boys who attend camp, visitors• When a girl needs to visit the Camp First

Aider – use 3 girls

• Safety precautions - stay on paths, no running

• Injury / incident forms - report any strange incident affecting a child

• First aid form summary

• And, remember to not smoke during camp
