Computer Network History

• The digital basis of Computers– Electrical Signals as discontinues bursts

• The Analog basis of Life– Electrical signals as continuous waves

• Purpose of the modem– Converting digital signals to analog signals & back

» Analog signals are continous waves that transmit information by altering the characteristics of the waves.

» Digital signals are discrete pulses that are either on or off, representing a series of bits (0s and 1s)
