Learning Objectives
Be familiar with a variety of carries and drags
Be familiar with cover and concealment
Be familiar with different ways to safely move patients from point to point
3
Introduction As Police Officers, you will be exposed to
victims in need of being carried and dragged from accidents, combat and blast injuries
These victims must be treated at a medical facility as soon as possible
A knowledge of first aid can often mean the difference between life and death
4
How to Get to the victim
The three methods that we will be sharing with you are:
High crawl
Low Crawl
3 – 5 second rush
5
High Crawl
Used when speed is a factor under fire
Use when cover is approximately waist high
Remember your equipment is higher than your back, it will expose you
6
Low Crawl Use under heavy fire or when cover and
concealment is poor
Pre-plan your route from behind cover
Heels down
Drag equipment behind you or push it in front
Know when to get up and run
7
3 – 5 Second Rush Use when speed is primary factor
Plan your route
Alternate sides
Watch friendly lines of fire
I’m up, He sees me, I’m down
8
Obstacles
Never go over an obstacle
Go under, around, or through
If you MUST go over an obstacle, stay low and move fast!
9
Webbing Drag Short distances
Quick removal from direct fire Uncomfortable for patient
10
Fireman’s Carry Fastest one man technique Short to moderate distances Able to provide self-defensive fire

Fireman’s Carry
13
Cover and Concealment Cover is anything that prevents you
from being hit
Concealment is anything that prevents you from being seen
Cover IS Concealment
Concealment is NOT Cover!
14
Responsibility
Always seek cover in an engagement
You have a responsibility to provide cover for your victims
15
Basic Individual Movement Techniques
Designed to make you less visible under present or imminent hostile fire
Adapt to the terrain available
Remember: Cover will conceal you, Concealment will NOT Cover you
16
Care Under Fire Remove the patient and yourself from danger
Techniques must be adapted based on the principles of cover and concealment, speed, and patient safety
Always remember – if you become a victim, who will take care of you?
17
