Unfortunately this time of year the weather can be challenging, but the promise of spring and summer ahead keeps us encouraged for warmer days to come! Our annual club shutdown is in the books. No large projects were done, but many small issues were addressed this year. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the members who put in numerous hours to make our club more functional and beauti- ful for the year ahead. The list of items that need attention at the club never ends, but we truly made a huge dent in it during this much-needed shutdown. Next year we may structure shutdown a little differently so that we do not need to be closed for almost two weeks in a row and are better able to serve our members! We also had a very nice get together on a Saturday morning when the temperature was 0º F to replace a deicer that had failed and gotten frozen into the ice. Some of the bracing that holds those deicers in place also needed to be replaced as the brutally cold temperatures have really done a number on the equipment. I must say, it is days like this that truly make me proud to be a member of this club! Nothing is better than members coming together in adverse conditions to fix a problem. We may not have had the best working conditions, but the crew still found time to have some fun! Just ask Steve Meicher why you should be careful what you ask for; you just might get it! So whether you went to the Boat Show to look over all that is new and exciting or if you have been just picking away at your “to do” list for the upcoming boating season, we are headed in the right direction and it won’t be long now! There are some really great events planned for you in the month of February that you will not want to miss. It all gets started on 10 February with the annual Sailing Ban- quet. This is more than just an awards ceremony. It is a celebration of the previous year’s accomplishments and a way for us all to look for- ward to the boating season ahead of us. I have many fond memories from this event throughout the years. Spinnakers hanging from the rafters in the main hall, the house packed full of happy sailors eager to share their stories from their times on the water, and the bar is four deep to get a drink in a pewter mug! This event is for all members, even if you do not race. Please join us for what has historically been one of the club’s top events of the year! See you at our club! ~Commodore Mike Dates to Remember January 29 Sunday Brunch February 10 Sailing Banquet February 13 Mardi Gras Potluck February 17 Midwinter Brat Fry February 18 Sunday Brunch February 25 Sea Scouts Chili Cook Off March 10 Commodore’s Ball April 1 Easter Brunch May 5 Kentucky Derby Event Hours LUNCH 11:30 to 1:30 Wed-Thu-Fri DINNER 5:00 to 8:00 Tue-Wed-Thu-Sun 5:00 to 9:00 Friday-Saturday Friday night reservations appreciated BAR 11:00 to close Wed-Thu-Fri 4:00 to close Tue-Sat-Sun Club Closed Mondays
