Canadian Simple Application

• Central Portal Management Centre is used as input tool - national records are then registered directly with the BCH

• Java application Installed on a (local / SCBD) server

• Using established link (webservices) this application pulls country records from the Central Portal and makes them available on national website.

Canadian Simple Application

• Characteristics / Functionalities– Easy to configure, add / remove sections, links , buttons, text, etc. – Multilingual – Allows to link to other already existing web applications, web sites

or portals.

• Requirements– If hosted in SCBD, just Internet access, otherwise (not

recommended)- Web server; currently the application has been tested working on

Windows platform- Apache / Tomcat application server (free)- Axis webservices Software (free)

- No database software is needed

• Advantages:– Easy to install and start to operate– Does not require a local database, records are

taken from the Central Portal– One information entry point– The BCH Training already covers all the

required skills to register the information and comply with the CP obligations

– Low cost in money and human resources

App Development Goals

• Increase functionality of the CBD Simple Database product based on the US experience

• Maintain compatibility with original CBD to ensure proper data transfer process

• Work with CBD and UNEP for review of compliance

• Create Exhaustive User Documentation• Add Website templates for a assistance in

developing a national website• Add Multilingual support to both database and
