Key Indicator- 7.2 Best Practices (30)7.2.1
1) Best Practices
1. Title of the Practice JOB FAIR: “Entice Job Fair”
2. Objectives of the Practice Job Fair was initiated after considering the challenge of lack of industrial
development in the region. Inviting companies from metro cities for single
campus was considerably difficult task. In order to overcome these challenges
Institute designed the concept of ENTICE JOB FAIR.
Objectives of Job Fair:
1. To boost placement activity of Institute.
2. To provide better and different options for placement to companies as well as students.
3. To help students from other colleges and institutes to get a platform for job
opportunity.
4. To create awareness among regional students about the placement practices of
companies.
5. To Improve employability of students from traditional courses
3. The Context:
1. Lack of local employment opportunities: Districts in western Maharashtra, such as
Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur lack industrial development. These areas are dominated by
SMEs and agriculture businesses. Hence job opportunities for professional graduates are
limited.
2. Professional and traditional courses under Shivaji University: This University is one
of the pioneering universities for professional education. There is a good number of
students graduating every year from various professional and traditional colleges. These
students get the opportunity of employment through this fair.
3. Reluctance of companies to visit regional areas: over the time it was realized that
large scale companies are reluctant to visit individual institute for campus placements.
They did not find it cost effective as number of final selectees per institute is less.
4. In search of innovative event: CIMDR is known for organizing innovative mega events
for past 20 years. In order to maintain innovativeness, CIMDR was in search of new
idea. During brain-storming session, students and faculty-in-charge developed idea of
organizing Job-Fair.
4. The Practice
Job Fair is self-funded, two days placement activity. It is free of cost for participating
companies as well as students. Placement is a crucial issue for all the educational institutes.
Placement is even more challenging in area like Sangli where industry is limited.
CIMDR started this activity in 2013-14. Till date placement was considered by institutions only
for their students. This was first time under Shivaji university that the placement activity was
taken to the large level where in all the students under the university were able to participate
at free of cost.
This is one of its kind placement activity first time organized by educational institute under
Shivaji University. It is fifth consecutive successful year of this event.
As a Higher educational institute CIMDR considers student development and placement as a
social responsibility. CIMDR offered free preparatory workshop for students from all the
colleges. Benefit of this workshop was evident mainly for students from traditional colleges.
Resume writing and interview preparation information was provided in the workshop.
MBA department students raised funds from the market, Posters were designed with
information about date, time, venue, participating companies and registration link on
institute’s website,. These posters were disseminated by students to various institutes under
Shivaji University. Students were asked to register on institute web site; registered data was
segregated as per the colleges and courses.
Companies participating from outstation such as Mumbai, Pune, and Bangalore were provided
with accommodation and internal travelling facilities as per their requirement. Lunch to the
recruiters was provided during Job fair.
On the day of Job fair one classroom along with two care takers was provided to the recruiters.
Distance from metro city is major difficulty faced while organizing and getting companies on
the campus. Sometime institute has to bare cost of accommodation and travelling
5. Evidence of Success:
In the first year of job fair we were expecting moderate response from students and recruiters.
From recruiters it was excellent response even KPO from Bangalore participated. On the other
hand we received splendid response from students as well. Even students from Solapur and
Pune University had registered with us.
Job fair has been successful placement activity over the last five years. On an average every
year 1500 students under Shivaji University register online. 15-20 companies from Pune,
Mumbai, Kolhapur, Sangli and latest from Goa participated in the event. Almost 300 students
on an average every year get placed through this event.
Placement activity for professional institutes is regular activity but Job fair has worked beyond
that. Sangli is Educational hub but at the same time industrial area is not developed hence
absorbing capacity is very limited. With the overwhelming response it is clear that such type of
job fair with professional outlook is need of the hour.
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required:
While organizing the Job fair major problems were Location disadvantage, lack of Finance, and
the gap between industrial requirements and mofussil existing student’s profile.
Location: CIMDR is located in Sangli, This region is predominantly agricultural. It lacks
in industrial development. Sangli is 240 km away from Pune where road and rail are the
modes of transport. Non availability of air transport becomes major constraint. Due to
location issue HR finds it difficult to spare 2 days for this event.
Finance: Job Fair is a self-funded two days event. This event requires funds for the
refreshment and accommodation of the HR representatives. Expenses also include
marketing of the event like travelling, posters and promotional materials. Funds are
raised by MBA students which are in a way difficulty as well as challenge.
Industrial requirement and Student Profile: Most of the students under Shivaji
University are from rural area. Though these students are academically strong their soft
skills need improvement to match employer’s requirement.
In order overcome these problems institute needs dedicated staff in placement cell,
infrastructure, funds and career counseling facility.
2 Best Practices
2. Title of the Practice PAHAL - Initiation of Skill development
3. Objectives of the Practice: CIMDR is located in Semi-urban area hence students of MBA lack in soft skill. Institute
makes designated efforts to improve skill set of students through various specifically
designed activities.
Objectives of PEHAL:
1. To Enhance Skills set among students
2. To improve employability skills
3. To improve self-belief among students
4. The Context
In normal circumstances Skill development is part of professional curriculum. Institutes located
at our area face difficulties in nurturing these students. Students are from different social,
economic, geographical background so it is difficult to match their existing skills with the
standard employment parameters.
Institute is of the opinion that the formal teaching is not sufficient to improve the necessary
skills. Hence various formal and informal activities are designed to bring-in a change among
students eventually.
5. The Practice
This practice is distinctive in a way it is operated. While implementing practice we avoid
labeling students by highlighting their weaknesses and lack of basic skill required for this
course. We try to build confidence among them though the activities.
1. Skill Identification process
This process helps to identify common and specific skill . After identifying skills, activities are
designed to develop and enhance skills.
Designing Activity: Skill development activities are designed by considering the
requirement of students. While designing activity care is taken that it is motivating and
has scope for participation of those who lag behind. Students who are above average act
as movers of that particular activity. Majority of activities are team based and teams
compose of different genders.
Implementation: These activities are implemented with the help of curriculum,
seminars, presentations, case studies, extension activities, mini projects, skits, cultural

last five year we have been successful in placing vernacular medium students in to
International KPOs. Eclerx has been recruiting our students from last five years.
