Expanded Cinema Summer — Call for Applications Deadline: April 4, 11:59pm AFCOOP is accepting applications for Expanded Cinema Summer, a brand new production residency for emerging filmmakers and artists. Expanded cinema combines approaches from experimental film, sculpture, architecture, performance art, installation and various other disciplines, widening the potential experiences of the moving image and exploring forms of presentation outside of the traditional theatre space. Five participants selected by a peer jury will be be given the unique opportunity to: • study the field of expanded cinema • receive handson analog film training • participate in a crossdisciplinary "Architecture and Image" workshop led by Passage Studios • attend artist talks & workshops by visiting artists Alexandre Larose and Izabella PruskaOldenhof • receive funding to create their own expanded cinema work presented at Nocturne 2016

Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival — Call for Submissions The Halifax Independent Filmmakers Festival (HIFF) is pleased to announce the 2016 Call for Short Film
Submissons. For the first time, HIFF will accept short film entries from outside of Atlantic Canada. Filmmakers
with short films from across Canada and around the world are invited to submit before April 1st, 2016. The
2016 Festival will be held June 9th-12th 2016.
Now entering its 10th year, HIFF showcases films that challenge convention in subject and in form. Short
filmmakers who are accepted into HIFF 2016 will benefit by having their work seen by visiting programmers
from top Canadian and International film festivals. In 2015 HIFF hosted visiting programmers from Festival du
nouveau cinema, Vancouver International Film Festival, South By Southwest, and Edinburgh International Film

Canon C300 Mark II
AFCOOP will soon be offering the brand new Canon C300 Mark II PL camera! This 4K iteration of the popular
C300 workhorse camera will offer shooters an incredible 15 stops of dynamic range to work with. Featuring an
improved Canon Log2 color science inside of the rugged and proven body design of the C300 platform, this
camera is a major upgrade for AFCOOP. We are proud to provide our members a camera at the leading edge of
film production technology!
New Mac Pro in Media Suite
Sticking with the theme of cutting edge 4K video production, AFCOOP has acquired a brand new Mac Pro for 4K
RAW video editing and mastering. The Media Suite features the full Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, After
Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Media Encoder and more), as well as Davinci Resolve Lite for grading and
finishing. The Mac Pro offers Thunderbolt and USB 3 connectivity with rapid-fire data transfer rates and
incredible playback performance.
2. WORKSHOPS
FILM 5 Trainee Program
Interested in working on a film crew this spring? It's not too late! The FILM 5 Trainee program offers aspiring
technical crew high-quality classroom training, practical on-set instruction, and networking
opportunities. Workshops are already underway, so make sure you don't miss out on the ones you're interested
where filmmakers and film lovers will watch the creations and cheer on the winners of SPFF awards (“the
Spiffies”) for the best movies.

NSI's Online Short Film Festival
NSI is accepting submissions for its Online Short Film Festival. The festival accepts films released from 2011
onward. The deadline is March 18, 2016.
Out East Film Festival: 2016 Call for Submissions
Submissions for the 2016 festival are currently open! To apply, complete the online entry form HERE.
Submissions may be fiction, documentary, animation or experimental of any length. We will accept films
dealing with queer subject matter as well as those made by queer filmmakers. Only films completed no more
than 18 months prior to the 2016 OUTeast Film Festival will be considered for admission. Preference will be
given to submissions that have not been distributed theatrically or broadcast on television in the Atlantic region
prior to the 2016 Festival.
Deadline for all submissions is April 1, 2016, 11:59 PM AST.
Atlantic Film Festival
The Atlantic Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its 36th annual festival, happening in HalifaxSeptember 15-22. Films can be submitted via either FilmFreeway or Without A Box. The Early Bird Deadline isMay 13;; regular deadline is June 3.
Vancouver International Film Festival
Named one of MovieMaker's 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, VIFF is now accepting submissions of both
feature and short films from any genre for its 2016 festival, which runs September 29-October 14. Featuring
the work of both established and emerging filmmakers, this will once again be a spectacular showcase of
cinema in one of the world's most beautiful cities.

BAFTA Qualifying Aesthetica Short Film Festival
