Text: John 15:1-8
= Remaining in Love:
John 15:9-10 - As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
= Condition for Success: John 15:16 - You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.
Topic: Whatever You Wish will be Given
You
= Heart of Our Lord:John 15:7 - If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
How Can We Always Get Our Wish Fulfilled in the
Lord?
1. 1. Know Who the Lord Is
= Do You Know How You are Connected with the God Who Plans Your Success in this World?
Vs. 1 - I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
= What is the Never-Changing Principle of Your Christian Foundation?
Vs. 5a - I am the vine; you are the branches.
1Corinthians 3:10-11 – By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
= How is Your View on Jesus Affecting Your Life in the world?
Vs. 5 - I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
A Case Study on Broken-off Branches
Romans 9:2-4 - I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, those of my own race, the people of Israel.
Rom 9:30-32 - What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works.
Romans 11:17-21- If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the
root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
2. 2. Know What the Lord Does
John 5:17 - Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working.”
= Why is ‘God is with us’ often a Scaring Issue in Christian’s Life?
Vs. 2 - He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
Romans 11:20-21 - Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
= Why is He who does not Remain in the Lord in A Serious Trouble?
Vs. 6 - If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.
= Why is the Role of Gardener Important for the Success of Good Branches?
Vs. 2 - He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
(1) God Knows What to do with Us.
(2) God Knows How to Make Us More Fruitful.
3. 3. Know What the Lord Wants
= What is the Valid Reason that Jesus, the Vine, wants Us, the branches, to remain in him?
Vs. 2a - He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit,
Vs. 5b - If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
= What does it Mean by “Remain in the Lord”?
Vs. 7 - If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
John 15:9-10 - As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.
= What does it Mean by “The Lord’s Words Remain in Us”?
Vs. 7 - If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
Joshua 1:6-9 - Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their forefathers to give them. …. Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
A Case Study on Keeping God’s Words
Numbers 13:26-33 - They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed
them the fruit of the land. They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very
large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.”
Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living
in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
= What is Success Preceded by in the Principle of the Lord?
Vs. 7 - If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
