Plan your trip on bus and light rail
How to Ride Riding the Valley Metro Bus•Arrive at the bus stop five minutes
before your bus is scheduled to arrive. Be visible and stay in the Safe Zone, away from the curb, and have your fare ready.
•As the bus approaches, check the destination sign and signal the bus operator.
• Let others exit before boarding. Move quickly to a seat. If no seat is available, stand behind the yellow line near the front of the bus.
•Major streets and stops are announced and visually displayed. Watch or listen for your stop. About a block before your destination, pull the cord or press the strip near the window.
• Exit through the back door.
Riding the METRO Light Rail•As you enter the light rail platform, use
the fare vending machine to purchase or validate your pass. Keep the pass handy in case a fare inspector requests proof of payment.
•Wait for your train in the Safe Zone, behind the textured strip.
•Check the directional signs posted at the station or the approaching train’s destination sign to make sure you board a train traveling to your destination.
• Let others exit before boarding the train.• The train stops at all 28 stations along
the route. Listen for announcements and watch for your stop.
•Doors open and close automatically. Enter or exit through any door quickly.
Bus Bus service operates 365 days a year on many local routes in Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe. Buses in these cities operate on Sunday schedules on major holidays.
METRO Light Rail METRO operates 365 days a year.
Weekdays•Hours. Trains begin the first full trip of the day at
4:40 a.m. from the end-of-line stations.•Monday through Thursday, the last full trip of the
day begins at 11 p.m., arriving at the opposite end–of-line at approximately midnight.
•On Friday night, service hours are extended; the last full trip of the day begins at 2 a.m., arriving at the opposite end-of-line at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday morning.
• Frequency. Trains arrive every 12 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; all other hours, every 20 minutes.
Weekends and Holidays•Hours. Trains begin the first full trip of the day at
5 a.m. from the end-of-line stations. •On Saturday night, service hours are extended; the
last full trip of the day begins at 2 a.m., arriving at the opposite end-of-line at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
•On Sunday night, the last full trip of the day begins at 11 p.m., arriving at the opposite end-of-line at approximately midnight.
• Frequency. On Saturdays, trains arrive every 15 minutes through 7 p.m. On Sundays, holidays and all other hours, trains arrive every 20 minutes.
ConductTake Care of Your Bus and Train• Smokingisprohibitedonthebus,train
and station platform.• Noeatingonvehicles.• Youmayonlybringcovered,spill-proof,
non-alcoholic drink containers on board. Acceptable containers include: hard plastic or metal (non-disposable) sipper cups, mugs with lids and closeable sports bottles.
• Shirtandshoesarerequiredtoride.• Placelitterinthetrashcontainerlocated
at the front of the bus or at light rail platforms.
• Noscratchingoretchingonthewindows or seats.
• Nocausticorflammablematerials.• Ridingskateboardsorroller-blading
on the bus or train is not permitted. However, they may be carried on board as long as they are kept clear of walkways. Riding is not permitted on light rail station platforms.
• Reportactsofvandalismtotheoperatoror by calling 602.253.5000. In the event of an emergency on light rail, use any of the six emergency buttons inside the train, call boxes at the station, or call police referencing the train number.

Bikes on Light Rail•Walkyourbike
through the middle doors which are near the bike symbol on the window.
•Youareresponsiblefor loading/unloading your bicycle. For safety reasons, operators cannot leave the cabin to assist you.
• Ifthetrainiscrowded,you may be required to wait for a less-crowded train before you can board with your bike.
• Verticalbikeracksare first-come, first-served. If the rack is full or you are unable to load your bicycle into the rack, you may stand with your bicycle as long as you do not block the aisle or doorway.
• Listenorwatchforyour stop and be ready to exit as the train approaches your stop.
Bikes on Bus• Foldingbikesarepermitted
and bike lockers or racks are located at most park-and-rides and transit centers.
• Allbuseshaveracksinfrontto accommodate 2-3 bikes. If racks or spaces are full, you will need to wait for the next trip.
• Haveyourbikereadytoloadby removing all accessories.
• Youareresponsibleforloading/unloading your bicycle.
• Lowertherackandquicklyload your bike.
•Makesureyourbikeissecured for travel by extending the hook over the tire but do not lock the bike to the rack.
• Ifpossible,sitnearthefrontof the bus. Exit through the front door and advise the bus operator that you are removing your bike.
•Makingsureyouremainvisible to the operator, release the hook and lift your bike. Return the rack to its upright position and move away from the bus.
• Nevercrossinfrontofthebus.
• ValleyMetroisnotresponsible for theft or damages to bicycles on transit system property.

Accessibility on Valley Metro
•AllValleyMetrovehiclesare100%mobilityaidaccessible.
• Buses have ramps or lifts and room for 2 – 3 wheelchairs.
• Light rail vehicle entrances are the same level as the station platform and each vehicle has areas for 4 wheelchairs. Wheelchairs do not have to be secured on the train. There is little lateral movement, and computer-controlled acceleration and braking systems ensure smooth transitions and stops.
• Stops are announced and visually displayed on buses and trains.
• Fare vending machines at light rail stations have screen instructions as well as voice instruction in English, Spanish and Braille.
• Textured warning strips are placed at crosswalks, platform entries and station edges. Crosswalks that lead to stations located in the middle of the street have three warning strips: one at each curb-cut and one at the station entrance ramp.
