Key Club is part of an international club on the high school level. What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. Today, Key Club exists in more than 5,000 high schools, primarily in the United States and Canada. The Key Club experience has grown to include the Caribbean nations, Central and South America, and most recently to Asia and Australia.

Key Clubs are funded by nominal dues paid by every member. Its officers are high school leaders elected by the members at district and International conventions. The organization offers a wide range of opportunities to its members:

Leadership development Vocational guidance College scholarships Service-learning Personal enrichmentOriginally, Key Club adopted as its

motto, “We Build,” the same motto as its parent organization, Kiwanis International. In 1976, the organization opted to change its motto to “Caring – Our Way of Life” because these words more clearly conveyed members’ reasons for helping others. Key Club provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. Our vision is to develop competent, capable, and caring leaders through the vehicle of service.

Our Goals are: To prepare for useful citizenship. To encourage the daily living of the

Golden Rule in all human relationships.

To promote the adoption and application of higher standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and social contacts.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent,

aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.

To provide a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render unselfish service, and to build better communities.

To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which makes possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will.

To be a Key Clubber:Being a part of Key Club is not simply just

showing up. To be an official Key Club member, everyone must have first purchased their S.O. card (required to join any clubs or teams anyway) and pay their $14 dues. If the dues are paid early and on time, members are rewarded with an hour of service credit to start the year. These dues fund international relief projects that the Kiwanis International holds yearly.

Just paying the dues is not enough, but don’t worry no more cash will be taken out of your pockets, that is if you do things correctly. To continue being a Key Club member, make sure that you attend all meetings and events, fund-raise for a cause you support, and by the end of this year make sure you have at least 40 hours of service credit. By DCON, people will be eligible to apply for Distinguished Key Clubber which awards members with service recognition on the district level and a chance to travel upstate for three days.

At the very end of the year, active Key Clubbers receive a certificate certifying that they have completed a full year of service. This certificate can be used as part of your college resume and proof of your community service credit.DON’T FORGET TO PAY YOUR $14 DUES TO FARHAN BASUNIA DURING MEETINGS. ALSO, MAKE SURE THAT WHEN HANDING IN DUES, YOUR S.O. CARD AND ID IS PRESENTED. (Seniors do not need S.O. cards)

that rose close to $10,000 in donations for IRI that all went towards the services for the residents within the organization. After taking a nice walk around the beautiful Cunningham Park, the walkers were offered a free picnic as gratitude for their donations. The picnic contained a variety of foods and drinks that were cooked and served by our very own key clubbers. Not only was there free food and drinks, but there was music, face painting, dancing, games, and free giveaways for all to enjoy. Overall it was a great day of fun, joy, and excitement as well as performing a good deed of community service for those who are in need.

did occasionally make fun of each other’s cooking skills we all appreciated the help that everyone had offered. Everyone had fun since it was KC’s first time making breakfast and it turned out to be very successful. At RMDH, groups of friends often have a blast with the assignment that they are given. If a person has never touched a stove before, then RMDH includes their first cooking experience. Here we help out the patients and their families, but we also help each other.

Fun in the SUN!!!

RMDH The Ronald McDonald House is set out to help families stay close together. While children are hospitalized, the love and support of parents is crucial to their treatment. The RMDH provides a place for family members to stay, their “home away from home”. Cardozo Key Club often offers to volunteer making dinner during the course of the school year. Each time, a group of twelve to thirteen Key Clubbers would go and make a full course meal of any dish they feel suitable. It’s a great event and so fun that there are returning members who wish to go again. On August 7th, we had attempted our first breakfast buffet. Twelve Key Clubbers came to help out. Although we
