We will also spend time praying with other churches for our lost family and friends. Gospel perspective. How would we react and what would our attitude be if our lives are in danger, access to food and water is limited, and our city is shut down because of fighting? I want to share a partly edited email I received from W, one of our partners in southern Philippines. Their city was invaded by Muslim rebels a week ago (September 9), shutting down most of the town, killing many people and leaving many more wounded, and causing a flood refugees upwards of sixty thousand flocking to open air stadiums with no water and no food. I edited their names and other information for security reasons: “Today is the 7th day crisis in Zamboanga. We have no classes and work next week. the central bank and other banks are still closed. ATM's are open and loaded, this has helped us. Stores are still closed, except some few groceries shops away from the City. only a handlful of pharmacy stores are open (doors are slightly open for few hours only) Continued on page 2

From the Pastor Continued….

there are food stores and market open in far barangays. In our residence, the stores are open. There are fish and rice, vegetables, fruits (main food), eggs for us. God is good! We have internet connections and electricity with water and hot water too. ha.... ha... God is good!

“This morning,”M”, “J”, “M”, “G”, “A” and “B” family, “D” and I had a prayer and bible reading together at the kiosk. We had lunch together, lechon paksiw, fish, nangka salad, squid hmmmm. God is good!

“This afternoon,”D”, “M”, “G”, “A”, myself went out to evacuees areas,We were told that there are abut 60,000 evacuees approx. 90 % are Muslims, coming from 4-5 Muslim barangays. The exchange firing still continues with burning of houses still happening...

“The government and military will continue the fight until the snipers will be killed. hostages are still there, the figure is about 40 individuals. The MNLF are said to be over a hundred in the affected area.

“There are no flights and boats. Military planes are servicing people around. US, other countries are pouring help to these evacuees.

“God is good! thanks for your prayers.” I hope you noticed the upbeat attitude that “W” had, and how she kept saying “God is good!” This is not bravado nor denial. It is a gospel perspec-tive about their situation. Please pray that our partners there will maintain this perspective and be even more emboldened in sharing Christ and in their churchplanting work. “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” 1 Peter 4:12-13 Pray that we have the same gospel perspective as we live and function

here in San Angelo. Lakan

On Sunday, October 6th, we will receive a special offering for the Pregnancy Help Center.

Each day, 2,150 women wake up in America believing abortion is the only realistic solution to an unplanned pregnancy. In this tragic decision, not only is a human life snuffed out, but a woman’s life is changed forever. The Pregnancy Help Center offers free, confidential pregnancy testing, client advocates, referrals for medical care, limited obstetrical ultrasound (depends on funds available), information on abor-tion procedures & risks (do NOT advocate or give abortion referrals), abortion alternatives, baby & maternity clothes, prenatal vitamins, prenatal & parenting classes (Earn While You Learn program; clients earn items for their babies), Bible study, infor-mation on abstinence & secondary virginity, post-abortion healing (for men & women). They offer all this at no charge and depend on private donations.

What YOU can do to help:

We have as our honored guest speaker, Dr. Paige Patterson, president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Of course we want to share a generous honorarium with him as well as being sure to have comfortable accommodations for him while he is with us.

We will be serving a church breakfast and also a delicious catered lunch on Sunday, Oct. 13th.

We are advertising our celebration locally and sending invitations by mail to former staff and members who have moved away. All of this does require funding. That is where you come in! If you wish to make a donation to help fund our 60th Anniversary Celebration over and above your regular tithes and offerings, please indicate that it is for “60th Ann.” on your check or envelope.

Please prayerfully consider what the Lord would have you give toward this momentous occasion. There are sign up sheets in the foyer and in your Sunday school rooms so you can register for this occasion.

Given to Date for 60th Anniversary Fund: $1605.00
