• Station: 1 Title: “Inventors & Inventions”• Name: Aimee Collins School: Arnold Mill ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: SS, Language Arts• Summary of Project: Fourth Grade AIM students researched various

inventors and created presentations (PowerPoint, brochures, plays, and/or models) about their selected inventors. The students then became inventors and created their own inventions. They filmed infomercials to promote their products.

• • Station: 2 Title: “Balanced Budget Project”• Name: Dolleen Wiltgen School: Avery ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Fourth grade students were engaged in a real-life

simulation in which they were required to maintain a spreadsheet of their weekly income and expenses, earning money through the completion of various tasks such as researching current economic events and terms and presenting their findings to the class. Students maintained a journal of their learning experiences on a Wiki and podcast throughout the project.

• Station: 3 Title: “Immigration: My History Through the Years”• Name: Dianne McClure School: Bascomb ES Grade: Fourth AIM • Focus Subject: SS• Summary of Project: Fourth grade students were involved in a semester long study of immigration. Within this study,

students researched and read literature about the history of our great nation, the United State of America, as well as interviewed relatives via email, videotape, in person, other.

• With this information, each student either produced a movie, using Windows Movie Maker, or created a Scrapbook which included information about themselves, family members, their own family traditions/customs versus their nationality's traditions/customs, and when/why their nationality came to America. The final projects were presented to parents/fellow classmates during a designated Movie Night.

• Station: 4 Title: “Encouraging the Love of Reading and Writing Through Technology”• Name: Rhonda Ryder School: Bascomb ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Reading• Summary of Project: Students read self-selected books throughout the year through several genres. Each student

then wrote a persuasive book reviews and created a movie release to create interest throughout our school. The movie releases created by creative stations were then viewed by the school on our school morning show. Students at Bascomb were encouraged to check out their book in the library. Students also wrote to the publisher to ask permission to used their book as a recording on ITunes and for book buddies at Boston through Podcasting and audacity.

• Station: 5 Title: “Using Technology to Motivate Students to Read and Write”

• Name: Tom Usry School: Bascomb ES Grade: Fourth SpEd• Focus Subject: Reading• Summary of Project: The students read books about Georgia. They take the AR

tests on the books they read. The students contribute to summaries of the books. The teacher composes fill in the blanks summaries of the books. The students then fill in the blanks. The students are filmed reading the summaries. The summaries are then offered to the media center for consumption. Each student will also receive a copy of their summaries.

• • Station: 6 Title: “Math at the Zoo”• Name: Jennifer Haygood School: Boston ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Fourth grade students investigated how math is used daily

at the zoo. They created a class zoo which involved internet research, e-mail communication with the Cincinnati Zoo, creating budgets with Excel, creating brochures with Microsoft Publisher, and creating persuasive commercials.

• Station: 7 Title: “Destination Vacation!”• Name: Lanette Quillian School: Boston ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Students take on the role of a travel agent and present

two vacation packages (one is extravagant the other is on a budget). They have researched costs associated with the trip and taken in to consideration how following a budget affects some of the decisions they have to make. They have also designed a brochure and commercial to 'sell' their vacation.

Project with the U.S. Military and then published a book of what they learned, presented it to members of the military at a Celebration Breakfast, and produced a documentary movie about the experience.

• Station: 10 Title: “Everyone Has a Story to Tell”• Name: Mandy Latimer and Allison Shepherd School: Hickory Flat ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Other• Summary of Project: This project was conducted by two job-share teachers in their

fourth grade classroom. Our capstone project is a culmination of the use of many different forms of technology. We used all of the components to produce and share a truly authentic published book by every student in our classroom. We will show documented use of each item that we requested and have slideshows available for viewing.

• Station: 11 Title: “Geometry in the Real World”• Name: Lisa Lougheed School: Holly Springs ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Students learned about two and three dimensional figures and properties of

geometry. They chose a theme and created a Photo Story about how geometry is used. Ex: Geometry in the Kitchen

• • Station: 12 Title: “Student Helping Students - Promoting Student Achievement Through Good

Nutrition”• Name: Betty Smith School: Knox ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Language Arts• Summary of Project: 4th grade students (both special ed and regular ed) worked cooperatively

with the cafeteria staff to launch a school wide emphasis on the importance of breakfast during National School Breakfast Week (March 2nd - 6th). Video presentations were made stressing the benefits of eating a school breakfast and were presented on Knox News. This was followed by a school wide survey regarding the number of times that students in grades K through 6th ate breakfast each week. The entire 4th grade assisted math resource students in the analysis of the data obtained in this survey, and students learned how to use Excel 2007 to create graphs. The week prior to the GCRCT, students presented their graphs and the results of the surveys on Knox News and stressed the importance of eating breakfast in order to maximize student performance on the GCRCT. Special education students also created informational and persuasive writings using information obtained in their study of good nutrition. The culminating activity involved the creation of brochures and flyers that emphasized the relationship between good nutrition and better school performance and included the breakfast menu for the week of CRCT. A flyer created by a special education student was selected to be sent home with each student in grades 1 through 6 to promote the importance of a good breakfast...especially during the week of CRCT.

• Station: 13 Title: “Lewis & Clark: A Talk Show”• Name: Lyn Blanton School: Knox ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Students participated in an in-depth study of the Lewis &

Clark expedition. They researched its effect on the westward expansion of the United States. They then took on roles of various individuals living during the Lewis & Clark expedition and wrote a play persuading others to either continue or not continue in the exploration of the United States. They performed and videoed themselves and then created a movie as their final project.

news show. Students were responsible for all aspects of each productions from scripts and research to actual filming and editing.

researched online about reducing, reusing, and recycling to save resources. In groups, they wrote and filmed puppet shows to educate younger students about the topic.

power point summary of their reports . They made commercials trying to get people to sign up to come on the journeys with the explorers.

• Station: 16 Title: “Trash to Treasure: Protecting Our Environment”• Name: Sandra Godfrey School: Liberty ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Our class studied ways that we can protect our

environment: turning trash into treasure; learning to conserve; learning about reducing, reusing and recycling. We researched the web for information and did a scavenger hunt about recycling. We made graphs and posters from our research. As a culminating activity we made infomercials to teach about recycling.

stories in 3 of the 4 writing genres. They then created a Photo Story to "digitally" tell their story.

groups and made brochures on the different regions of Georgia. They have included the climate & soil, animals and plants of that region in their brochure.

Pollution and the effect it has on our earth. Students kept an e-journal of the units learning, created a Photo Story to inform other students in the school of their role in protecting the earth, along with a link on our class website to information about pollution and our Earth

• • Station: 20 Title: “Comparing and Contrasting Two Societies”• Name: Linda Schmersahl School: Woodstock ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: The students researched the four types of productive resources. The

students also compared goods and services of the United States and South Korea. They researched using the internet how the countries were interdependent and what products and services they traded. The information about the countries and resources were put into a PowerPoint presentation and presented to the third grade class. They were videotaped during the presentations.

They also attempted to connect with a school in South Korea through epals.

• Station: 21 Title: “Be a Hero - Go Zero (Carbon Emissions)”• Name: Linda Warner School: Hickory Flat ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: 3rd graders studied the effects of fossil fuels in our environment and what

they can do to help zero out their own carbon emissions. Students blogged, wrote and produced persuasive commercials and made power points to inform others of what they can do to help. An environmental speaker informed the students of recent activity in North Georgia and the negative effects that have taken place in the area's habitats. Students wrote letters encouraging change.

• • • • • Station: 22 Title: “Ecosystems and Human Impact”• Name: Lisa Naliwajka School: Holly Springs ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Science• Summary of Project: Students researched ecosystems from around the world and created

newspaper articles about the biotic and abiotic parts. Students also created power point presentations about the different relationships in the ecosystems and made a movie about the human impact.

• Station: 23 Title: “Volcanoes Alive”• Name: MaLinda Blanchard School: Holly Springs ES Grade: Third • Focus Subject: Other• Summary of Project: Volcanoes Alive has been a multi-disciplinary third grade gifted unit.

The students researched the social, economic, and cultural influences that volcanoes have on the surrounding communities. Students created real-life models and simulated volcanic eruptions to deepen their understanding and insights of volcanoes. Through technology, students were able to interact with researchers at the Hawaii Volcano Observatory on the Big Island of Hawaii, as well as create audio-visual presentations inspired by volcanoes.

• Station: 24 Title: “Travel the United States”• Name: Gina Baldwin School: Johnston ES Grade: Fifth • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Students plan a trip to each of the 7 regions of the United States,

visiting historical sites along the way. They use a "green screen" to make a movie of themselves (behind a scene from one of their sites) reporting back to their families about their discoveries and adventures. PowerPoint journals of the cost of the trip and day to day sites visited are also to be presented along with their movies.

• Station: 17 Title: “Dollars and Sense”• Name: Danielle Barber School: Oak Grove ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Social Studies• Summary of Project: Students participated in the Banking on Our

Future Online Program. They learned about becoming credit-wise and money-wise consumers. They made PowerPoint presentations and a commercial about what they learned for their peers. We also had a volunteer speaker from the banking community that presented them with valuable information.

National Music Standards; students were engaged in creating a musical composition that was posted as a pod cast to a web site and burned to CD's

• Station: 19 Title: “Toy Story”• Name: Joanne Ingram School: Oak Grove ES Grade: Fourth • Focus Subject: Math• Summary of Project: Students participated in a project that used technology to

spotlight geometric concepts. Before beginning the project, students used Quia to survey the school in their favorite types of toys. The students then created a toy using geometry and the survey results. The students used Microsoft Publisher to create a magazine advertisement and Microsoft Movie Maker to produce a video commercial for their toy.

investigation of geometric concepts with specific regard to how we communicate with one another in math communities. The students produced a video and a podcast to educate other students about geometric concepts.

immersed into figurative language with this poetry project! The students wrote their own poetry using similes and metaphors. Students prepared photostories to share with their families as digital books.
