Glue Magazine
Glue magazine was a 48-page magazine I set up and ran, publishing three times per year. It became the longest running publication at University for the Creative Arts.

University for the Creative Arts (UCA) Accommodation Pack
The brief was to professionalise UCA’s welcome pack given to new students on their arrival to university accommodation. This was part of my freelance work, with the institution commissioning me privately.
UCA refreshed its visual identity a few months prior to this commission, and I was the first non-agency designer to follow the demanding 80-page brand guide, which specified exactly how everything should be placed and laid out. Part of the rebrand included a set of seven styles for displaying the letters U,C, and A, two of which are shown in the photograph.
I designed the Welcome Pack folder (pictured, on the left), which contained a Handbook (pictured, on the right), and loose information sheets.

UCA Students’ Union Elections 2016
The brief was to promote the upcoming elections and encourage students to put themselves forward for the available positions, with particular focus on the key Campus Officer post.
Taking advantage of an entirely creative target audience, I devised a campaign that captured attention and got students excitedly engaging with the promotion. Attached to each piece of promotional literature was a polythene bag of assorted Lego pieces.
The recipient was encouraged to build something with the contents of their bag, or combine their pieces with others and construct something bigger. Once finished, students could upload a photo of their creation to social media using the campaign’s #BuildABetterUnion tag.
More students ran for election in March 2016 than at any time in the organisation’s history.

UCA Students’ Union Elections 2014
Prior to the Lego promotion for the Union’s elections to encourage students’ creativity, I produced a campaign using origami animal figures.
After identifying five qualities found in excellent elected student representatives, I assigned them to easy-to-make origami animals and drew up instructions for each figure. The series was made up of penguin (pictured), giraffe, frog, fox, and crane.
Each promotional flyer explained the elections on the front, with folding instructions on the reverse. The bottom half could be torn along a perforated line to fold into the figure.
More students voted in these elections than at any time in the organisation’s history.

Jeremy Bennett Golf Logo
Jeremy Bennett is a professional golf coach who has worked with masters of the sport, such as Nick Faldo and Rory McIlroy.
When I came to design a logo for his coaching business, I wanted to create something contemporary, yet still relevant to the sport he teaches.
As shown on the diagram below, the slant between the J and B is exactly 45 degrees - the club strike angle which many consider to be the optimum for a golf ball to fly the farthest. The shape of the J has a hint of the putter, while the negative space of the B is shaped to resemble a sand wedge. I endeavour to apply this level of attention to detail throughout all my work.

DG Medallists Logo Concept
When creating a new logo for DG Medallists, one of my concepts was to take the design far away from the company’s competitors in terms of look and feel.
I applied a contemporary graphic to a trade which has not changed much over the last few hundred years. The design is extremely versatile, allowing images and colours into the area around the G, which would also include video on their new website.
Ultimately a more traditional design was chosen, but I still love how this logo can be applied to print and digital media. The four variants below show other examples of how the graphic could be used.

Project Data Sheet: Job 237200 (pg 1 of 2)Value: £750,000Contract: NEC3
Duration: 35 WeeksClient: Surrey County Council
FARNHAM ADULT LEARNING CENTRE25 West Street, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 7DR
A new building extension to the existing listed building. This project was to add a new arts studio extension to the existing Learning Centre. The works involved the refurbishing and redecorating of the existing building including: -
• Ground Clearance (Vegetation, Steps, Paving).• Excavation and installation of new utilities, footings and drainage.• Construction of brick and stud walls.• Installation of steel work.• Construction of roof.• Plastering.• Decorations.• CCTV of existing drainage.• Stripping out of tiles, walling, flooring, cupboards etc. in the existing building.• Installation of new doors and partition walls.• Installation of new toilet facilities.
CHALLENGESThe project was logistically very difficult as access to the site was limited and the building is on the main high street in Farnham, this caused us to negotiate a remote site compound. It also meant that the delivery of materials was difficult due to the narrow access in to the site.
The centre was also open for the duration of the works so disruption had to be minimised and the safety of the users had to be protected at all times.
All excavations were carried out using micro diggers.
BENEFITS REALISED / LESSONS LEARNTThe programme did not allow enough time for the excavation.
More communication with the Client during the early stages would have been beneficial to help explain the difficulties. We also needed better communication with the Client’s commercial team
Project Data Sheet: Job 237196 (pg 1 of 2)Value: £4,000,000
Contract: JCT2011 Design & BuildDuration: 9 Months
Client: Brompton Barracks
DENISON BUILDINGBrompton Barracks, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4UG
The site is located in a secure army barracks which is constantly in use by trainees, officers and family members. The refurbishing work was carried out to an existing three story CLASP type modular building that was built in the 1960s.
The building is a steel frame with lightweight floors and timber partitions, the external is made of timber curtain walling with glazing and metal framed windows. The building was built using asbestos materials which needed to be removed safely prior to any works being carried out.
The contract was programmed for 12 months and cannot over-run due to expensive liquidated damages. The building will be unoccupied during the works.
SCOPE OF WORKSWe carried out the removal of asbestos material, structural repairs to steel columns, structural repairs to concrete beams, installation of designed curtain walling and renewal of all mechanical and electrical equipment. The works also included: • Installation of traffic management • Removal of asbestos material• Complete building strip out• Complete M&E• strip out• Removal of Curtain walling Installation of design access scaffolding• Structural concrete repairs• Structural steel repairs• Installation of new curtain walling
Walker Construction Case Studies
I was asked by Walker Construction to produce case study sheets to provide to potential clients and encourage selection in the tendering process. It was important to use a design which was very flexible; suiting vastly different projects, and varying levels of detail available to the author of each case study.

UCA Students’ UnionEvent Promotion
I also produce publicity that must display a lot of information. This design was to advertise a series of activities around a theme of sustainability.
The image below shows the detail that goes into my work, from incorporating a foliage effect to the title, to a batik-style pattern to break up the darkness of the background.

UCA Students’ UnionWelcome Guide 2013
For the Students’ Union, a great deal of its commercial activity comes from income generated by ticket and bar sales at the start of the academic year during Freshers, so it is important to drive attendance to these events.
I wanted to move away from previous iterations of this publicity and put something fresh and exciting into the hands of new and returning students. This piece is an eight-page roll-fold leaflet, which required very careful planning so information was delivered to the student in the desired order as it unfolded.

UCA Students’ UnionEvent Promotion
Although my role at UCA Students’ Union no longer affords me the time to produce advertising for every individual event, I still create unique designs for key events throughout the year.
Here is shown the Dissertation Hand In poster from 2015, Halloween from 2013, and the February calendar of events from 2016, showcasing some of the styles I can turn my hand to.

University for the Creative Arts (UCA) Catering Loyalty Cards
After proving my ability to precisely follow a comprehensive and somewhat complicated brand guide, I was asked to provide loyalty cards for the University’s catering outlets.
Upon purchase, the customer would receive an inked stamp on their card. As such, it was vital to source a paper stock that would absorb the ink and not allow transfer to other surfaces in a pocket, bag, wallet, or purse.
