As the previous slide demonstrates, tuition costs continue to increase as the years pass. In fact, tuition has almost doubled in the last 10 years. Just from last year 2007, the costs have increased by 7.4% and will continue to escalate unless some type of action is taken to prevent this constant rate of inflation.

This is not an isolated issue, one can see it affects every province in Canada. The problem does not just transpire in Canada or the United States, the high cost of education is a serious concern world wide.

Today’s students are the future of tomorrow. Therefore, it would benefit society as a whole, to educate and prepare all of those willing students worldwide.

Statistics Canada has reported that socioeconomic factors play a high

role when it comes to determine who will be able to attend university. Not only can the less fortunate not afford

the price of education, but these people are often discouraged initially

by the alarmingly steep costs of tuition.

What Can YOU do?→ VOTE! Learn about

your local candidates & vote for those who plan to do something about tuition rates and education standards.

→ Voice your opinion! Many feel that there is nothing that can be done about tuition rates so they do not voice their concerns about the situation. The more this issue is addressed, the more attention it will receive & there will be a demand to deal with it.

→ Hold your candidates responsible for their promised actions, do not let them forget the changes they planned to make.

→There are many different solutions to this problem, by working together different ideas can be explored to come up with the best solution, from more government education funding to cost caps.

Canada is not alone in the high cost of education being problematic. Many other countries have little

access to the means of education, and many countries who have this access have very few people who can afford the cost or time of schooling. Education institutions in developing countries are much different than schools in developed countries. Many people are discouraged from attending, not only because of the high economies but because of poor conditions.

Some schools are not schools at all, students and teachers gather under trees. Those that learn in actual buildings are very likely to catch some type of illness from another student, which could result in the discontinuation

of school. While in Canada we tend to focus more on the cost of post- secondary education, in developing countries many cannot afford primary education. This creates a vicious circle in such countries, they need an educated population to help better the situation they face, but cannot afford to educate the population.
