M.A.C Cosmetics was founded in Toronto in 1985 by Frank Toskan and Frank Angelo. The goal of the company was to create specialized products for professionals in the industry. As time went on, the unique colours and products created by M.A.C gained widespread popularity, and collections were soon available to the general public as well.

The M.A.C. Aids Fund was established in 1994. The company remained under the original owners control until the same year, when Estee Lauder took over.

The first VIVA GLAM lipstick was released in 1994 when the M.A.C. Aids Fund was established and 100% of the sale proceeds went to the fund. There are presently six shades of VIVA GLAM lipstick and two shades of VIVA GLAM lipglass available to the public. M.A.C employs various celebrities to represent the VIVA GLAM name in ad campaigns, and singer Fergie is the current representative for the brand.

VIVA GLAM SHADE LAUNCHES BY YEAR

The M.A.C AIDS Fund supports programs in 55 countries and has recently reached the $100 million mark. The program is dedicated to increasing its presence in Africa and the Caribbean, which are the two regions most affected by AIDS. The M.A.C AIDS Fund is the third largest corporate funder for HIV/AIDS programs as well as being the largest non-pharmaceutical corporate donor in the world, both honourable titles to hold. The AIDS Fund does not focus on researching a cure for AIDS, but rather goes to supporting the basic needs of people affected with HIV/AIDS and to establishing prevention and treatment programs. The M.A.C AIDS Fund is also focusing on raising awareness in young people, or those under 25 in order to address the alarmingly rising numbers of young people affected with HIV each year.

HIV/AIDS is a growing problem in our society, and without the proper attention it is a problem that will only continue to grow as time goes on. 33.2 million people are infected with HIV/AIDS worldwide and there is currently no known cure. The impact that AIDS has on the human population is indescribable and there is a lot of work that needs to be done to end this epidemic. Eradication of this horrid disease will only be possible if we all work together on prevention and a cure.
