Compared to last month: Holstein steers weighing under 500 lbs traded 5.00 – 18.00 higher. Holstein steers weighing over 500 lbs traded mostly 10.00 – 21.00 higher on comparable sales. Trading activity was active on very good buyer demand. The supply consisted of about 90% Holstein steers, 5% Jersey steers and the balance Holstein heifers. About 20% of the supply weighed over 600 lbs. Next special Holstein feeder cattle sale will be held on June 30, 2014.

Compared to last week: Slaughter lambs and feeder lambs mostly steady. Slaughter ewes were 9.00 lower. Slaughter bucks were 2.00 higher. Kid goats traded 5.00 – 7.00 lower on a very thin test. Nannies/does traded steady. Bucks/billies and wethers were too thinly traded for an adequate market trend. Trade activity was moderate on moderate buyer demand. In the sheep supply 27% slaughter lambs and 18%feeder lambs, 55% slaughter ewes and bucks with the balance being replacement ewes. The goat supply consisted of 52% kids, 45% slaughter nannies, 3% slaughter billies and wethers. Sheep and lambs sold on a per cwt basis and goats sold on a per head basis unless otherwise noted.

Wednesday, June 4, 2014About 400 head of slaughter cattle were sold today with the
market slightly higher on all classes of cattle. Lean beef cows
ranged 97.50-109.00. Fat beef cows ranged 106.00-117.50 and
averaged $2-3 higher than last week. Holstein cows averaged
$1 higher than last week, with a lot of overlap in lean and fat
prices. Bulls were $2 higher than last week with high quality
lean bulls represented from Lucerne and Panaca, NV. Other
highlights included smooth fleshed beef cows from Panaca,
NV and fancy black heifers and steers out of registered Angus
bulls from Hillsdale, WY.

Compared to Wednesday’s Stock Show Special: Steer calves weighing under 700 pounds traded mostly 5.00 to 6.00 lower, with instances of 8.00 lower calves weighing between 550 and 600 pounds. Yearling type steers weighing over 700 pounds traded 2.00 to 3.00 lower. Heifers traded mostly 3.00 to 6.00 where comparable sales were noted.
